What do people think of making the game a double header??

The GAA saying that revenues are down and then they go about making a Atha Cliath vs Laois game a double header.

If they gaa need to increase revenue then they should leave Atha Cliath games on there own as they will get around 70,000 for that game alone so no need to put the other game on.

after the leinster final last year i thought that the dublin laois game would have pulled in a big crowd allright.

    blame those pesky kildare lads.

What probably would have made the most sense would have been Dublin v Laois on their own, with perhaps a minor game on first. And to have a Wexford v Offaly double bill as they play each other in the semi-finals of both the hurling and the football.

Doesnt make sense to me at all making this ame a double headrer. I think the Dublin Laois game would of sold out on its own. They should of staged the Wexford game at a provincial venue where they would get a decent crowd on its on and a good atmosphere. Its just going to mean another big ticket scramble for a lot of people.

Double headers are always a great day out so from one point of view I'm glad the decision's been made. But I might not be so glad if I don't manage to get a ticket. No offence to the other counties involved, but with the way Leinster is at the moment, in a way Dublin-Laois could be the biggest game in Leinster this year, since it's highly likely that whoever wins it will go on to take the final as well.

I just hope we raise the standard bigtime after our last outing and Laois don't steamroll us...

I was delighted when it was announced as a double header. It means there'll le less Dubs there (no offence), which should be a boost to Laois. Laoise abu!

It will make it harder to get tickets, for everyone.

My thoughts exactly...any idea when they're on sale?

Why wasn't the Longford V Dublin & Carlow V Laois match a Croke Park double header??? That would have got them a good bit of revenue...the poor paupers in the GAA

But I have to say as a Kildare fan, I love the atmosphere in Croker when the Dubs are playing!

Dubs v Laois changed to stand-alone fixture

Dublin's Leinster SFC semi-final against Laois is now a stand-alone fixture and not a double-header with the other semi-final.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty over the Offaly Kildare BOI Leinster SFC Game, Comhairle Laighean wish to confirm the following rearrangements.

    Sunday 25th June
    Croke Park
    BOI Leinster SFC Semi-Final
    Dublin v Laois 2pm

KILDARE and Offaly have been put on notice that if the Disputes Resolution Authority rule in favour of a re-fixture of the controversial Leinster football quarter-final next Thursday night the game will go ahead in Portlaoise next Sunday.

The Leinster Council also decided last night to put the Wexford v Kildare/Offaly football semi-final back by a week to Sunday, July 2 when it will be played as part of the doubleheader with the Kilkenny v Wexford Leinster hurling final. That leaves the Dublin v Laois football semi-final as a stand-alone fixture on Sunday week. It will have a 2.0 throw-in which is good news for TV fans as it can now be shown 'live'.

It was due to be played as the second fixture after the Wexford v Offaly/Kildare semi-final and as TV coverage had already been arranged for the Munster hurling final at 4.0, the Dublin-Laois game would not have been shown 'live'.

Wexford are the big winners from the new arrangements as both their hurlers and footballers will be playing in Croke Park on July 2.

As the row over Offaly's use of subs in the quarter-final clash heads into its third week, the Disputes Resolution Authority will meet on Thursday night to consider Kildare's request that the decision of the Central Appeals Committee, awarding the game to Offaly, be overturned.

Kildare are seeking a re-fixture and are also asking for a clarification on the 'blood' sub rule which is at the heart of the dispute.

Kildare lodged their case with the DRA on Friday. The CAC will be invited to respond, leaving the DRA clear to consider the matter in full on Thursday. However, it's by no means certain that the DRA will make a decision that night. Since this is an extremely complicated case, it may require a second session.

The GAA moved yesterday to ease the pressure on the fixtures' schedule by putting the Kildare/Offaly v Cavan All-Ireland qualifier tie back to Saturday week.

NEW LEINSTER SCHEDULE - Football - June 25: Semi-final: Dublin v Laois, Croke Park, 2.0. July 2: Semi-final: Wexford v Kildare or Offaly, Croke Park (time to be arranged). July 16: Final, Croke Park. (If a re-fixture is required for the Kildare-Offaly quarter-final, it will be played in Portlaoise next Sunday at 3.30). Hurling - July 2: Final: Kilkenny v Wexford, Croke Park (time to be arranged).

Hmmm, good news for the GAA in terms of crowd size! But not the footballers have a week less than the winners of the other semi-final to prepare :( Provided the beat Offaly of course ;)
