Just want to know what the story is.

Got a taxi for a work thing this morning. Taxi drive put for hire sign on but didn’t put on the meter. Didn’t realise till I got where I was going.

Taxi man goes oh whops for got to put the meter on. I asked what does that mean? He says he'll just have to approx cost it. I said I need a receipt so he just picked out a load of receipts and he said take your pick.

I said I wasn’t gona pay till I got the receipt for my trip. He said he'd call the cops. I was in a rush so paid him and got a few receipts for the books!

Another thing I noticed what the picture on the form in the passengers seat wasn’t the same as the man driving. What’s the story for with that as well?

Report it to the carriage office -do you think he overcharged?

How can you tell? There was no meter and I use taxis once every 12 months or so

Report him. I know hind-sight and all but you should of refused to pay. I've driven a few times and forgotten to put the meter on till half way to the destination, the result, my tough luck. Dublin is a metered area.

Legally they have to charge you what's on the meter... if that ever happens to any of the rest of you (and you're not in a hurry) say "call the cops then..." and explain nicely to the police why this man is wasting their time...

As was just mentioned, he has to charge what's on the meter, that's what it's there for. It has happened to me once or twice in the past, but in those situations, I knew how much the fair shoud have been and I was lucky that they were actually nice about it.

    I'm a taximan.

Legally he was obligied to charge what was on the meter and thats all. If he forgot to put the meter on thats his fault and he should forfeit the fair, thats the rules and regulations he's obligied to operate under.

If you have a receipt his plate number will be on it, report him ASAP and help get rid of bogus taxi drivers.

How do you go about reporting him?

Do you just have to contact the carriage office?

Like you think those two will actually be the same? I'd say they weren't.

If you are ever in a fare dispute you should ask to drive to the nearest gardai station to sort it out.

Before that ask for him to write out a receipt to the amount and have him write his plate number and his cab number (which are different). You should also make a note of the license plate of the car.

His plate number should be the number which appear's on the receipt. The plate and badge number are different. The badge number will be on the badge, which the driver is legally obligied to wear on his person in view of the fare.

Keep the receipt and ring the carriage office with as much details as you can remember, including the plate number on the receipt.

One final point, the badge number will be on the drivers farecard too.
