Ducks on Liffey

I am sure that a lot of people heard about the "sponsor a duck" thing on the Liffey on Saturday.

It cost €4 to sponsor a duck and it was in aid of Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

Apparently the 150,000 ducks were sponsored which means

    150,000 x €4 = €600,000.

That sounds great - but according to reports on Sunday they raised €120,000 for the hospital - what happened the other €480,000?

How much does it cost to buy 150,000 ducks?

BTW, there's still a lot of stragglers floating around the river!

Ah... I was wondering what the giant duck mascot walking around Grattan Bridge was for...

I thought it was Slappy the 'Don't Jump in the Liffey' Duckling from the Island of Misfit Mascots.

..who's going to clean up? So it's ok to dump 150000 bit's of sh1t in the liffey now?
I'm all for charity, but wtf happens to the ducks? "Ah sure it's grand, they'll float away".

Unless you have a phobia about rubber ducks, are hag-ridden by nightmares and talk in your sleep.THEN you'd get to say it everyday.

It was MY idea to pollute the liffey with dead ducks and ruin everybody's summer for them!

They had two boats of people picking the ducks up and throwing them to people on the bridges and quays'. That solves the litter problem as people where going mad for them, they should have been arrested for bio-warfare. I can't belive people would touch something that's came out of the liffy.

Amazing! I don't know which is worse to be honest. That they only had two boats doing a half arsed job, or that the two boats were just throwing them back up onto the quays.

They bought/ were given 150,000 ducks, and hoped to have one person sponsor each one. Obviously they didn't get half as many sponsors as they were hoping, and hence a lot of non-sponsored ducks were floating down the Liffey.

What I want to know is who is going to pay the bill for the clean up operation?

Dunno, but they'd need a crane to fish them out. I'm surprised the Northsiders havent started robin them all yet. I can't believe we're so gullible to allow something like this to go ahead. We'd really swallow anything we're given, us dubs... No wonder it's a dirty owl town!
