Depends what your into really, money just goes in Australia, as soon as that $50 bill comes into your hand its gone in minutes. If your looking to party and go out on the razz then you will have to restrict yourself on that budget, €8k is a nice start to set yourself up and live/travel around for about 2 months. Keep in mind all backpacker jobs are badly paid unless of course you have a trade/degree and have good experience, the 3 month visa rule can be a killer unless you have decent experience. My advice would be for you to fly into Cairns from NZ and maybe travel around the north and down the centre or do the east coast, personally i would do the north and down the centre and hang out in Cairns for a few weeks, the east coast is over touristy. When going out, we usually got the 2 litre cartons of Rose wine for $10 and havd a few swigs then hit the pubs/clubs, wine is cheap in OZ and some of the cheap stuff tastes good.

Obviously the main cities are more expensive.

Either way, have no worries and enjoy!

THe Australian gov. have changed this, as of July 1st 2006 you can stay 6 months in a job on a working holiday visa. So chances are better paid jobs will be made available to people who are on WHV.
