Does anyone know of anyone in the Dublin area who would fit a new convertible hood for me? Thanks!

do you have replacement roof already? what car is it?

i was trying to get few prices before ordering new roof but decided to do it myself after getting usual response:

ohhh , this car is special
    ohhh price would be special
ohhh, don't come back to us if roof leaks cause wasn't supplied by us

It's a 1971 Mercedes 280SL. I think I may have found the right man for the job - I'm going out to show him the car & have a chat with him tomorrow. i'll keep you posted.

Funnily enough, I found him in the Golden Pages, called him, and found him quite rude. He told me he only fits hoods he supplies himself, when I asked him could he recommend someone else (I have my own hood) he just said "No" and hung up.

There was a guy on Emmet Rd, Dublin 12. His place was within shouting distance of Dillon's pub. My roof was slashed a few years ago and this was the only man I could find that would replace it. Again, he supplied the roof and carried out the fitting. Very good job done, my insurance company re-inbursed me for the cost of the repair as it was classed as vandalism.

    Hope this helps,
    Mac

Yeah I used to work in the area. Saw some nice classic mercs regularly in that place

Me too, it is a W113. It's a Californian import though, so not quite as elegant looking as the European cars. I have some pics, but they're not on the laptop yet - I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Thanks to all for the advice re hoods - I think I've found the right guy. His name is Gerry Killeen, based near Bray. I drove out to him today, spoke to him for an hour or so and was very impressed. He's charging €400 for the job, the car's booked in for Monday. I'll keep you all posted.

Please don't drag up old threads. Just start a new one. You could PM Anan too if you wish.
