Sometimes, I do it when I'm modding. I sign off with simu (x forum mod) so that it doesn't look as if I'm some random control freak!

    But that's all.

It's redundant. Why do it if your name is displayed beside your post anyway, and if your using a different name to sign with, why use a pseudonym in the first place!

Well a lot of the time after I post I use my real name not just my name on this.
Why I do this I dont know, maybe so that when people see me they will know my name, that said when I do meet people that are on boards they often start calling me shoutman.

    regards
    Luke

And I do the regards bit because it makes me feel important or something, i dunno ask a pschologist.

I used always do this but apparently it annoyed people, and I even got PMs from those that shall not be named asking why I did it and would I ever stop doing it.

It's just a holdover from the email generation, and then mostly from those who used (as in years ago) email a lot in work, mailing lists, etc.

Recreationally, we have forums, instant messaging, IRC, etc to take the place of email for casual contact purposes.

It's quite nifty actually. I don't ever conciously look to the left to see who is posting what. Instead I just read the comment so often times when I am flying down thru a thread I remain oblivious to who the author is esp when I am indifferent to their post.
