Hello I am a sky dunce, I moved my digibox across the room reconnected it and now I'm getting a no satellite signal being received message. I've definatly reconnected everything correctly as I got the othe half to check, rang sky they went through the switch on/off, services, lnb setup all that but still nothing, so we've had to book a service call which will probably cost a small fortune! Was thinking of getting sky plus and multiroom anyway so would it be better to cancel the service call and just order the sky plus package? Is it better to go through sky direct or to get someone locally to do it? Please advise.

no signal means no signal, do this, go to back of digibox, unscrew the lnb f connector, look inside and make sure u can see the bare wire that brings the signal from dish, it may have bent or broke off or be too short. the f connector connects to the cable in a screw effect ie to put on twist it clockwise, to undo, do anticlockwise, if u can see cable give it a few twists clockwise while pushing at same time. put back into lnb socket in digibox but make sure the bare cable goes into the little hole, screw up tightly and voila!

    Howya Hun
I would suggest you go local if you are looking for skyplus multiroom.
If you go sky direct you will be dealing with a sub subcontractor
by the look of your details and name wexhun you should contact any Tv shop in town or any of the electrical wholesalers they will give you a list of names for installers in your area

    best of luck

you should raise a formal complaint, 80 euro is a disgrace,

i had a look on ebay and found

yes a new lnb for £2.99 = €4.33 yes that is correct. I doubt if the lnb has gone at all, just because u moved it, get a 2nd opinion. hope u did not pay a call out.

i would check it for u myself if we were near, i am in clare.

That £2.99 is only a bid price so not correct. It does seem a little coincidental that the lnb has failed but not beyond the realms of possibility. If the installer was buying from an Irish wholesaler thewn he s probably retailing around 30 to 40 euro and when you add a callout fee 80 is not that bad. Its easy to use strong words like "disgrace" when the guy is not here to defend himself.

I know u are reasonable, found another one for 4.99 buy it now, plus 4 quid uk delivery, would not be much more for ireland, this equates to 13.00 euro. A long way from 80. However, from what u say its the going rate. I would aim to change an lnb in a reasonable time, and i would not pay 80 euro. However, the lcoation could be miles away etc etc. I was more surprised that the LNB was the fault more than anything else.

ps i wish he could come back and justify 80 euro. I am sure one can sign for multiroom or sky + for not much more than 80 euro so customer will get a new sky box, a new quad, 2 new leads from dish and be quids in.

Yeah i agree it is surprising that the lnb failed at the same time the box was moved. I would not say its exactly the going rate as myself and other guys i know ask if they can hang on to single lnbs that have been replaced by quads and when you tell the customer you can simply give then one of those they are usually happy to pay just the call out charge. At one time there ws a guy in Dublin who charged for replacing lnbs when all he did was repait the connection so its always wise to ask to see the replaced part.

 Thanks guys what an eye opener u c when u haven't a clue about satellite like me u'd easily get dupped.
The guy charged €40 call out charge and he lives in the town about a mile away, so he didn't have to travel and was only here about 5 mins, glad I didn't had over the €80 though anyway my skyplus will be here on Tuesday please God! Tired of standing on one leg hanging out the window to get a reception on the telly for the world cup for the hubby! Even the kids have it marked on the calender, countdown, 4 more days!!!

In fairness to the guy he did have to travel (2 miles) and there are other costs like insurance etc which have to be paid whether hes there 5 mins or two hours, €40 is not really that bad IMO. Was he charging an additional 40 for the lnb or an additional 80 which would have been over the top ?
