Hey this is my first post here, I've recently become hopelessly in love with motorbikes. Been reading alot about the Rockers and Ton Up Boys in Britain in the 60s, great stuff.

Anyway, I was wondering, just how dangerous is cycling these days?
I need some pointers to help convince my folks to let me get a bike.
My Dad used to have one himself but he seems vehemently opposed to me having one.

    Can ya help?

Yes it's dangereous, but you can be prepared by getting plenty of training and always wearing the right gear. There's loads of good teachers out there.
I generally take the view that every car driver out there is trying to kill me. Show your dad that you are taking a responsible attitude and you might bring him around. Also try and point out some of the money saved (generally as opposed to cars).

Your age might determine if getting any sort of insurance is a realistic option. You might just have to wait. :(

Yeah, I am only 17. I could always wait til I have my full car liscence, that'd make things alot easier wouldn't it?
    I take the same view when I'm driving, it's a good'un.

What's a good bike to start on? I'd be looking for something classically styled.
