I like TV, I am a regular TV Watcher, but I only watch things I know I'm going to enjoy. Unlike many people I do not sit there all day hoping something good will come on, while watching utter rubbish for hours before this happens. This is why I perfer the internet as I control whats on, and I'm generally learning a lot more. I spend a lot more time on the internet than TV, but to most people this is kind of strange.

    How about you?

I tend to do both... I'll watch some junky movie on one of the movie channels that doesn't require too much attention while I work away on the laptop.

Would use the internet more, and may even use the internet to watch TV.

Yes I would gnerally have the TV on in the background, but if somehting comes on that I want to watch proiperly, I'll sit down on the couch and watch it

I bought a tv for one reason- to watch Invader Zim as my computer has no multi region DVD drive.

Mum asked me some thing like this the other day...
If you had a choice ... Internet or TV?
The answer was straight away Internet...
She said she agreed, if she could keep only one TV would be gone with out too much though.
As more people get used to the internet, TV totaly takes a secondary place.

Definitely use the net more. I pay for the full Sky package, most of it is just crap. Not a tv fan at all.

Definetly Internet. The tv I have here can be switched off for weeks at a time truth be told.

Ironically I still subscribe to Digiguide (just to be sure there's nothing good on).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

i only watch TV for football matches or if im with the gf watching a movie or something.

the internet is the TV of the 90's. instead of couch potatoes, you have desk potatoes. :D

this is something i really only noticed recently. i used to watch WAY too much telly growing up, circa 40 hours a week which is longer than the legal working week. but ever since we got over 6 stations telly's slowly being going down the swany. so much so that like someone else posted i really only watch it now as backround noise and the must see shows/movies i know i like.

personally i blame the programmers. i dont like soaps and i loath the whole reality ****e thats flooding the airwaves. i mean what kind of retard actually watches big brother? increasingly i end up either watching the news or discovery which is a god send in terms of some of its programming (the how things are made program can be really cool, not to mentions superstructures. really interesting to see how a jumbo jet is made)
honestly in the last week the only thing that struck me as being even remotely interesting was a program on BBC about the life of a sperm whale done in CGI . it was a hell of alot more fun than i thought. particularly the bit where it wandered into a military war game and damn near got killed by their sonar tech. and the fight scenes between it and the antartic giant squid was class.

i cant help thinking the problem is the over abundance of stations. when we only had 6 most of the ****e that gets axed in one season was filtered out. now theres practically a station for everything and as such its damn hard to find a single station with a good selection of different types. as a result im on line more and more simply because the variety is better . this keeps up TV Could be fecked

Ratings are already dropping slightly across the board. Kids are now asking their parents can they use the internet for a few hours after school - not the tv. Google are heading into the TV area - A definite sign of things to come.

I don't really watch TV anymore except maybe the news or a good film. Maybe 2 hours a week.

I do both at the same time, but I mostly use the internet.

Reality TV is responsible for killing TV!!

I used to watch a lot of TV,then reality tv started and now i hardly watch TV at all,the only thing i still watch is sports and The Simpsons!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭Kinetic^

Internet for sure, there's too much crap on tv these days but when I do watch it, it's generally paramount comedy 1/2, sports channels or Top Gear that I watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,753 ✭✭✭qz

Internet. TV is full of shíte, and one or two programmes that I'd try get around to watching weekly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭the Shades

Internet work has reduced the amount of time I have to watch tv and so I use the internet more, so when I'm off at the weekends I still use the net. Only watch about 2 or 3 things on tv these days. i'd rather go out :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

I watch a lot of d/led TV...but since that is all done over a net connection, to me, it counts as intarweb...in terms of BBC, RTE etc (don't have sky) I'd watch maybe 1-2 hrs a day, and the majority of that is news/current affairs/documentary/quiz type stuff...
The thoughts of avidly tuning into Deal or no deal, Big Brother, Celebrity come dancing or whatever other shíte passes for mass entertainment these days would be enough to make me stab myself in the eyes with a crochet needle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

I definetly use the internet more, as we don't watch much TV. Whenever I aim to watch a show, we inevitably end up going out or doing something else. So the internet!!!

Id go on the net more, dont really watch tv much, or go on the the net, but ive been on here alot lately;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭dubtom

Mostly internet, Tv is usually what puts me to sleep, discovery have a lot of real life murder thingys and how their solved but I think I've seen them all. Increasingly it's getting harder to find a program that's not a repeat. Soaps I cannot stand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,611 ✭✭✭✭Sam Vimes

99% internet. i have a tv card and sometimes thats on in the corner but most tv is utter crap nowadays. lots of dl/ed tv but i almost never sit there and flick through the channels anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Definately the internet here too. The only tv programme I'd regularly tune in for is Top Gear (Sundays at 8!) but unfortunately that's off for a month now due to the poxy world cup.
I'd flick through the likes of the discovery channel/national geographic/history channel etc from time to time, as they usually have lots of interesting stuff ... so many repeats though.

I can't stand any 'reality' horse sh1te. The likes of Big Brother and Celebrity <insert anything here> are what's killing TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 145 ✭✭Grem

I use the internet in work during the day(i have a really quiet job so im allowed) but at home id always watch TV, digital -theres always something on!
Id only really log on at home if i had to check my email or book something. But then if i had broadband at home id probably live on it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,730 ✭✭✭✭simu

    Internet ftw.

TV is mostly boring, you are stuck with somebody else's choice of what to watch at a given time and there are too many repeats.

Whereas, with th'inth0rweb, there's infinite variety, far more fun to be had and there's the interactive element for ++ fun.

    Never watch tv any more.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭zuma

TV has also all but disappeared from my life as well!!!

I normially have a radio/winamp on in the background now if Im just reading web pages as I just find it far more enjoyable!

When I was younger TV was king.....but the Internet has control over my life these days.
If it wasnt for broadband then there is no way I could spend so much time on the net and it would be spent probable watching TV as computers are of little entertainment value for me unless they are connected to the net!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Omnipresence

PC/Internet for sure... was always 50/50 as work with computers so sitting at one in the evening after working at one all day was never an option but now with broadband etc... can download any decent shows and watch there...

The internet. I quit watching television years ago.

I'm Irish, living in Germany so the internet allows me to keep in constant contact with my friends and family. Also, I can listen to the radio stations in Ireland getting the news and such. There are no english channels where I am and I don't speak German so I could be a bit bias

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,821 ✭✭✭18AD

    Internet FTW.

All my stuff is in this room of computing so I spend my days in here.

Don't watch TV, unless there's a grand movie on.

Definetly internet, Wikipedia and Carmageddon forums are like a drug to me!:D

Rarely watch TV, with the exception of Mythbusters, Top Gear, and South Park sometimes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I watch tv about 2 hours a week....whereas the internet....almost double that per day!

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

My mother says I'm addicted, and I don't even live at home so she doesn't have a clue how much time I actualy spend in front of a PC. probably more time than I do sleeping. Quite worrying really.

I dont watch tv, so when i'm home I'm on the net. I don't need tv, I can download my favourite episodes of stuff without commercials and crap.
