Ive just finished my first self inflicted on my inner calf and to be totally honest it looks ****.Theres a few blowouts in it and the odd one or two white spots with some "shaky" lines.

But the strange thing is that by the end of the outline I had the depth perfect and after 1 weeks healing the shading is still jet black meaning that my shading should be fine.
My "mentor" has shown me how to fix my fook ups and thats my next project for tomorrow.
Heres a "before fixing the fook ups" pic.

Were you using a 5 or a 7 to outline and what did you use for shading? Don't worry about the white spots i've seen very few artists who can lay down good black that won't need a touch up first time. I've seen alot worse first tattoo attempts see the one by "shano" in the i'll show you mine thread. All in all B-

I think that was my mistake amazingemmet I used a tight 3 round liner and a 5 mag for the shading.
I should have used a 7 or even a 9 for the outline and a 7/9 round shader for the tips before using the mag on the wider parts.
Im going to go over the outline using a 7/9 tomorrow and reshade it with the 5 mag.

The upside to using such a fine liner on the out line is when you go over with a bigger needle it'll cover the blowout. I wouldn't go as high as a 9 for a small tribal like that as would be hard to get the points nice and tight. Should work out fine and on the plus side nothing covers a small black tribal better then a big black tribal :D

So you`d say go with the 7???

Ive to sort this one myself--Ive to make the call on what size to use and what way to go about sorting it--its part of my "learning" process.

Go with the seven and i reckon you can get away with using the 5 mag shader with out having to go near a round shader.
