Now that's what I call impressive.

    Wow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

What I really draw from that is how tasteful teh whole setup is.

I like it, it's not brash metal stuff. Everything is perfect. Great tone, great melody and rhythm. Ah yes!

    Youtube kicks ass.

Dave Weckl's probably my favourite drummer, amazing stuff as you can see.

Hey, I like it too, but don't knock the brash metal stuff! Some of us like that sort of thing.

That sounds like biscuit tin rock.

You sound like you need to insult something else in order to validate your own opinion. Honestly Giblet, I'd like to see a thread on here about a musician where you are trying to put something down. I think this thread would've stood perfectly on it's own without your comments about 'Brash metal stuff' and I don't know why you even brought it up in the first place.

The styles are completely different, but that doesn't mean either style is any less valid. If I want to hear some drumming with more melody, then Neil Peart is excellent, but that isn't what Flo Mounier's solo is about, it's all about the exhilerating blasts of speed, and I can certainly appreciate it for that. Don't insult it just because it's not the same as what you've posted, Giblet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Production in that video is hurtful to mein ears, biscuit tin rockesque, like he couldn't tune his kit. And using a double bassdrum to create the illusion of speed isn't something i'd respond to compared to drummers who wouldn't use that technique. It's not to do with insulting or passing myself off as anything "beyond" that type of drumming. It's just what I like. I don't need to validate everything in the context of "it sounds good to someone all music is subjective" bollox. It'd be like someone scoffing at "I don't know art, but I know what I like" because they like art so much. It might be "offensive" to someone who thinks they have studied every facet of the topic they love so much but it isn't anymore valid. Infuriating, isn't it?

If you don't need to validate anything, then why bother making the statement "I like it, it's not brash metal stuff." when you could just leave it as "I like it"? Why the need to put down something else.

Granted, you say it isn't something you respond to... so why bring it up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Because I can? I use brash as a derogatory term meaning unpleasant and harsh, and in my experience, some metal drummers who are lamented display this trait more than others. I use it as a conversation piece between party tricks. Come on, I'll respond tomorrow when I;m more less drunk ..

Ok ok, I just wanted to get it across that I'm not anti-metal, just anti- elements of metal. I suppose I could say that about every music genre, but I'd be here all day. (I was also kind of taking a dig at the big metal solo linkage culture here hehe). I JUST WISH BONHAM WAS STILL ALIVE OK IS THAT A CRIME!

Jon Theodore is close though (toi what i think bonham would sound like if he was alive today (and not 60))

It seems Vinne got the most cheers more often. Must get me some stuff he's played on. I love Gadd's drumming on Aja. Weckl should go back to playing on stuff like Material Girl (just kidding). Excellent playing on Material Girl.
