    Hi,
    Hopefully someone can help me.

I have an old laptop that I had on a work network and it has windows nt installed on it. It has been sitting around for a good long time and when I powered it on, sure enough I didn't have the password, what do I do now as I used the laptop in an old work network and do not have this access anymore?

i don't have the software available, is there anyway of accessing the laptop?

I just want to use it as a dvd player now, but need to get into the operating system to do that.

    Anyone want to help?
    Thanks in advance

Use a linux live cd and you should be able to access all the files without the password.

Don't need to re-install the OS just yet..

There are tools you can use to reset passwords linky

Using this software you can create a linkux bootable floppy, that has an application on it which will list each of the user accounts on the machine and give you the opportunity to change the password for each.

Download the software, make the bootable floppy, boot the laptop from the floppy*, reset the appropiate passwords and DVD away to you hearts content...

    * Obviously this won't work if you don;t have a floppy drive on the laptop

There is a CD image too.

Print the instructions or keep the page open as you work on the other machine.
