I was wondering if it is fair on my dog to get another dog that will end up bigger than the dog i have now:confused: the dog i have now is a cavalier king charles i was thinking of a german sheperd or staffordshire bull terrier

I wouldnt say so, normally it is the smaller dogs that are more feisty and the bigger dogs are scared of them :) I wouldnt be too worried about your current dog being able to stand his ground.

I have a westie & 3 small jack crosses with my borzois x red setter & my newfie x lab & my golden lab & the 3 medium dogs & they all get on ok - smaller dogs do tend to think they are the bosses although Max the lab is the top dog in this house.

This sounds like you already know the answer to your question. Trust your instincts. ;)

If you feel that your dog would be intimidated and/or not too happy if you brought home another dog, then perhaps you should wait until your dog is more socialized around bigger breeds.

    Good luck! :)

I had a samoyed husky a bit on the small side and as a companion i bought a great dane :-) way way bigger than him. I did wory about him getting hurt but he loved her from day one and was very quick in getting out of her way :-) I had tried him with a male dog of his own size but he wasn't keen on sharing his house with a male dog at all..he was fine outdoors jsut not impressed when the othe male came into the house...he was frantically gathering his belongings and hiding them.

Anyway the great dane outgrew him and we had no problems at all ever. I say had because unfortunately the samoyed was knocked down a few weeks back and our great dane is still missing him greatly..as are we.

I must say on another note..had we not had a second dog i think i'd have found it even harder to get over the loss of my samoyed..so having 2 is def a good idea for yourself also.

anyways on the big/small front our dane hailey's new best friend is a chihuahua :-) he belongs to my boyfriends mother and they play most days together..i was initially worried for the chihuahua..hailey's paw is bigger than him, but u couldn't find two happier dogs when they're together so well i don't think the size of the dog u get is the issue. If you get a second dog with a good temperment you should be fine.
