I remembered that I saw a bit on TV3 about the communions most of which must have happened last week, it was mainly as always about the price of the day, money giving and the clothes.

anywho it had the expensive (creepy) dresses and a young kid talking about limos and horse drawn carriages with one shown with Mr Massey.

Im sure it bad representationof the average kid.

I wonder does anyone who has communion kid did there priest address this issue at anytime in the run up to the communion, did he say suggest to the parents a mutual cap on spending or anything like that?

yes I did use a thesaurus but I was looking for the right word, vainglorious had a certain apt ring to it.

ah no-one biting, not many communion parents on these boards, anyway the Sindo obviously read this :) and had a piece about some father who said similar things about the confirmation, - a social event that signifies the end of the religious engagement in teenagers, the church(tm) was asked and said there was no problem so thats ok then

I'm not Catholic but the children at home in Cork get Communion in thier school uniforms...no vanity there! According to my mother, the priest goes on about The Stations and the need to have them plain and simple, just tea and scones, never mentions communion!

A lot of the parents don't have a lot to spend and it prevents parents weighing with eachother ie the need to keep up with the Jones' so i dont think its a bit much.

    Nah, think thats aboout right...
Like the deal is taking the commuion for the 1st time not putting o na pagent for teeny kids with makeup and fake tan...
God that image makes me shudder...

Its really unfair to think the pressure some familes must find themselves under regarding dresses, celebrations etc!
