I will have to start processing my film ,I will be doing it locally and only seem to come across sprectra photo (I think thats what it's called).

Is there any paticular name I should look out for ,or do they all use the same equipment etc??

It's also important that I get file copies of my images.

I have tended to steer clear of Afga equipment as IMO it is sh*t. My Epson at home is better.

I left the stuff in a local chemist ,9 euro for 36 exposures in an hour.

I left 4 rolls in ,and I have to wait 5 working days for a CD of the images.
    It's fuji equipment.
Fingers crossed ,first developments for me on an slr .:(

Any chemists I've used have come back with fine scratches and fingerprints on the negs.

It al depends on how well the equipment and chemistry is maintained. Have a chat to the manager of the establishment you are considering going to and ask him/her about this. If he or she doesn't have a clue then try find a place where they're up on these things.
Bear in mind if you are from a small town there may not be a whole lot of choice and you may end up going down the postal route.

I process my own black and white - cheap and easy to do - for colour I stick with digital. With black and white I scan the negs after developing them - after the price of the scanner and the cost of film it comes to something under a euro per roll of filmf. Less if you do two at a time and know when you can reuse chemicals (sometimes you can reuse one-off developers). There is a learning curve, but it is fast - the key is to practice loading the film onto the spool and get a good thermometer. Once you have the temperature right and follow the film times you'll be flying. Also, there is nothing like the buzz of checking your shots that you have just developed. And, you'll be well on your way to moving into medium or large format.

I've been encouraged to do so by my sister ,she done a photography course herself and said that I would love it.

I could if I wanted set up a mini lab ,I would have to do two courses though as my photography is not great.

As for what crowded house has said about marks ,I think I've spotted what you have said already . But at the moment things like that aren't important ,it's the whole get out and get movin process that is good for me.

I'm still drinking far too much for someone who should be using a camera in their spare time.

I got some pics enlarged in my local photo shop and they were disgraceful, A3 enlargements full of scratches and pixelated all over, I had the same pictures with me printed off my epson in A4. He sent them off to agfa and they were done on photo paper but one still had an orange colour cast on it.. :(

The only shots that I really liked were the ones I took using my 30mm 1.4 DC sigma lense.

I noticed in Fajitas shots with his 10-20 DC sigma that he got a black circle of the small frame in the glass ,but the shot's I got back were clear.

Took shots in a dark pub ,minimal lighting (dark) and they came out glossy.

if you get scratched negs or fingerprints on shots, COMPLAIN!!!!

there's a lot of people out there running labs who've had no training, but there's plenty that know what they're talking about#

agfa, fuji, gretag, noritsu etc machines can all give stunning results if the lab operator knows what they're doing
