Digital Camera newbie

    Hi,

Someone suggested to me that I might find Photography an interesting hobby so I'm looking for some advice on a digital camera to get.

I have no knowledge of camera's besides the basics....I've done a search and seen that MP size isnt the most important criterion....I've €200 burning a hole in my pocket...can anyone help me.

I took a look in the Argos catalogue and was looking at the Samsung Digimax A7 7MP camera...simply because its 7mp and its apparently down in price...

thanks for any help on what to look out for.....

We've had quite a few posts recently for 'find me a camera' for your kind of budget, so to save repeating it all just have a read through. One thing I would say is that Argos will be nowhere near the cheapest place for digital cameras - and unless the samsung digimax range has improved vastly over the last 4-5 years I'd avoid them, mine was incredibly slow compared to the other cameras in the same price range at the time.

Unless you want to blow up the pictures to a3 or something then 4-5mp will do you fine. Look instead for optical zoom, and quick response times. Check out www.stevesdigicams.com and www.dpreviews.com for some good reviews on pretty much any camera imaginable. Look in the 'where to buy' sticky at the top for online suppliers too.
