    How are ye,
I've just started going to the gym again. I'm 18 and basically would like to know i'm a perfect weight(wouldnt really need to lose any)but just wondering about converting it to muscle.

Plan on working out 4/5 times a week for 1.5 hours a go, roughly. Is this to much/not enough.

Also would I need to maintain a certain diet? I just really want to lean upand keep my body in good shape. no bodybuilder **** going on.

Any other recomendation are welcome, cheers!

Read the sticky on weight gain!!1.5 hours is too long to spend in the gym if you're tryingto gain muscle..think half that with twice the effort!

If you do around 40/50 mins of weights and the rest cardio then that would be your hour and a half.

    Not the fighting type!!

I dont think your the same body type as me. So my recommendations may not suit. I have to do a lot of small reps with big weights. But all I will recommend it cut out the cardio and start intaking more calories. Not junk food to do that but you are more than likely burning more calories than you eat. You now need to do the opposite. As for cardio. 20 mins a week max.

If you're not a mesomorph(soembody naturaly muscular),big weights, small reps and tons of food is the only way to build muscle just like you say.If you're naturally skinny you may want to use protein supplements to make sure your body is flooded with body-building amino acids at all times. The important thing is to stick with it,everything takes time and the results will be worth it!!

Lots of good protein and good carbs.By good i mean NO crap like chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, frozen ready meals, burgers, hot dogs, crisps, breakfast cereals, chips, white bread, beer, butter, mayonaise, kebabs, pizzas etc.LOTS of tuna, lean chicken, lean red meat, fresh fish, potatoes, whole wheat pasta, vegetables, brown rice, multivtamens and drink lots of water.Sugar is one of the worst things in the world, completely devoid of any nutritional benefit.cut it out completely, and try not to eat too much fried foods.Try to eat every 3 hours or so and make sure you include a protein source with very meal.Aftre six months, provided you work out properly, you wont know yourself!

For breakfast try and eat something like porridge to give you carbs and eggs for protein.if you cant stomach porridge you can have a few slices of wholewheat toast or bread and something like scrambled eggs or cooked chicken. The point is you must eart like this all day,its actualy really good fun and you'll feel great as you're only getting the best of food and your body will respond accordingly!

and this is why you often see people saying that they take a Whey protein supplement with their brekkie as not everyone is up for a cooked chicken breast in at 7.30 in morning to get in some protein:D

They're handy things to have..they help provide you with protein when it wouldnt be practical to cook and eat a full meal eg at work or last thing at night. If you're serious about making gains, supplementing is a good idea. Most people use a why shake as its easily assimilated protein containing the full range of amino acids and very little in the way of fat or sugar.Avoid Weider and Tony Quinn and pretty much anything from chemists, they're likely to be expensive and full of sugars. There's a bloke heer who sells high-quality supplements,Easygainer is his name, its wort pm'ing him.

I would also incorporate more fat into your diet also, good fats of course :). Good fats help develop hormones in your body and are used for the membranes in cells and are generally used around the body so they are important in any diet especially for weight lifters etc. And eat a good bit of good fats also so tuck into oily fish like salmon and eat raw unprocessed nuts, almonds, peanut butter and if you want to, take omega fats supplements. Preferably Flax seed oil as it contains omega 3s,6s and 9s. Having a diet with starchy carbs, healthy fats and plenty of protein should put on good weight for you.

Hope that little bit of info helped,
    Good luck,
    Cravez
