I'm flying over to Budapest shortly and going to head from there to Vienna, Prague and ending up Berlin. Anyone recommend any good hotels in these spots, close to the action

The Circus hostels (i think there are two) are apparently good craic - fairly mental though, no idea what its like if you want to get a good nights sleep. In berlin I stayed in a place called EastSeven - lovely place, big - was quiet at the time of year I was there but it was well late in the summer, so i'd say its fairly big. has some cheap places to eat nearby and a lidl to stock up on cheap beer during the day. The owner is a dead on chap, really helpful and willing to sit around and have a laugh with us. Didn't mind noise etc. even though his Daughter and mother were visiting - he just packed them in the room furthest away from the common room :)

    well worth going to.

as for budapest the following places are reasonably well located - we rented an apartment when we were there so no idea what the hostels are like - preferably you want somewhere near whats marked on those maps as nepkoztarsasag utca, which is Andrassy St. (I think, at least it looks to be):

check that site and generally someone around there isn't half bad. Budapest has a great transport system though, so getting around isn't hard at all.

Stayed in Hotel Donauzentrum in Vienna, very good hotel and we managed to find an excellent rate. For during the day the location isn't fantastic - North of the main town centre and the other side of the Danube. It's very close to a train station though, so not a problem for getting into the middle of things.

The main advantage is it's near to a really good nightclub by Wien standards - I should know, I've been to one! http://www.nachtschicht.at/

The Intercontinental in Budapest is a good hotel, views over the river and to the castle. It's about e100 a night for a room that sleeps three. If you wanna book accommodation the best site I came across when researching over there was www.bahn.de - click on International guests and then hotels. For things like Ibis and so on it was much cheaper. Some of the domestic chains in Budapest aren't up to scratch for what you're paying. I stayed in a hostel in budapest as well - one run by the university and it was bloody awful. Avoid.
