    Why 25k only?

I'm disappointed by the apparent shortsightedness on behalf of MB/IRFU in general here: we have a hugely growing sport raking in TV and other sponsorship, never been more popular, regularly scheduled sold out internationals, huge amounts of travelling fans.

And we're redeveloping Lansdowne to what, 50k? And Thomond to 25?

Does this not strike anyone else as about 2/3 of what we should aim for?

They'd only come close to filling it for H cup matches and perhaps some internationals

You'd be pushed to get 75K for matches other than England & France every
    2nd year.

You'd be a lot easier to understand if you took your tongue out of your cheek. ;)

I don't think filling it is going to be any problem whatsoever during HC games. For CL games, you're going to have to get a little smarter about your marketing but the extra capacity and seats will give you the flexibility to do that.

eg Family packages, corporate events with ancillary activities etc etc

And 25,000 people in a packed stadium is much more intimidating and atmospheric than 30,000 rattling round an 80,000 seater.

I believe all the home internationals have been sold out every year for the last 4 or 5 (that's from experiencing the crowd, not offical figures, so I could be wrong there).

To me, building Lansdowne at 50k is like the guys designing the Port Tunnel - "well, there's hardly any of those super-trucks on the road so we'll make it to fit the normal artics only". Cue massive increase in super-trucks.

Oh i agree with you about Landsdowne Road...imo tis a waste of time building a 50k stadium to replace a 49.5k stadium.

But there is no need for a bigger than 25k stadium in the regions.

Fantastic looking stadium well done Munster.

Agree 100% with you daveirl in relation to the NZ situation. I was able to turn up to most games to get tickets for the last 5 home matches the Hurricanes had . Only time there was a queue few days before was for the crunch match with the Crusaders and the semi deiceder with the Waratahs.

People like the big events whereas the diehards will goto every game usually.

I think it's just the camera angle that's making it look off-centre. It does look a little "blocky" though. Maybe it'll look better once they put the (presumably) white seats in to spell "MUNSTER".

Pity they don't stick in a stand like that in the RDS

For anyone in the locality, there's a talk on Thomond Park being given by the engineers in charge of the project, on in the University concert hall on the 23rd.

I was at the open day for MRSC members today was well impressed with the new stadium. I took a few photos and have uploaded them here, this is an album of all the photos I've taken since the demolition of the old ground.

    Great photo's, thanks.

:D I'm sorry, but I have to say, the art work is the most self ritious w@nk I have ever seen :D

The stadium looks great though, corporate facilities are excellent. I like the old trick of the pillar right down the middle of the visiting dressing room. I remember hearing / reading somewhere that one or two places do this as it seperates the room and makes it very difficult to address the whole room at once and you can't make eye contact with everyone etc. - a psychological ploy to disrupt the opposition. Fair play!

In fairness if our locks put Chabal down early in a big game like that and then we went on to win the HC we would have some paintings of it too!
