Reg plus service charge

Recently the Gutshot brought in a service charge on top of their reg fee for tournaments.
This is common practice in the states but I have'nt seen it in Ireland or Europe YET.
E.G The 500 run on the same day as the SDPT was 500 plus 20 plus 10% service charge.
I am considering dropping reg fee in total and charging a set percentage on each event.
    i.e 100 buy - in 15%
    500 buy - in 10%
    5000 buy - in 6%

    Suggestions are welcome.

is the service charge 10% of the reg fee (nominal) or are they charging 500 + 70 in total?

    14% on a 500 game seems a bit schteep.

What's the difference? In a rebuy I can see the difference, but is there any difference between a €110 freezeout with 9% service charge, or €100 + €10 reg? I have seen tournaments advertised in the US and on the continent with a reg and then a % withheld for the staff. The gutshot one sounds like they're trying to hide the full cost more than anything, although obviously if you are going to replace one with the other that isn't the case with you.

I'm in favour of not having reg on rebuys, it encourages people to rebuy more. But I don't think it makes that much difference.

AFAIK they dropped the reg fee for legal reasons and just take the service charge. For that event they added £5k so that negated most of the service charge. There was a big debate on Hendon Mob site if you can be bothered to look.
