Portable music player suitable for jogging/running?

    Hi all,

Since my humble 256MB Creative MuVo player departed to that electronics den in the sky some weeks back, I've been on the lookout for a new brand of MP3 player.

The thing is, though, the only totally shockproof type of player is the one with flash memory, and that's still a little on the expensive side relative to hard drive capacities. Understandably, I'd rather not spend all my time tied to a treadmill when jogging!

I saw a 20GB capacity Creative Zen Touch advertised on the Komplett website this week for €159 and very am tempted to go for it. But does anyone on here have experience of using Creative products in vibration-prone situations such as outdoor jogging/running? Or are there more resilient players/brands out there?

Any experiences you might be able to share would be most welcome - and (once again) thank you in advance!

not exactly the best player in the world but it does what it says on the tin, handy little gym mp3 player but at €77 euro including delivery you can't realy complain, it even has a radio.

I think carrying the zen touch to the gym would probably be a work out in itself as it isn't the smallest thing in the world

a better bet would be which as come down it price a lot in teh last week aparently is the 4gig version of the micro photo

I have a Sony HD-5 that I use in the Gym and for running. It's similar in size to an I-Pod, perhaps slightly smaller. I use one of those Arm Band thingies for holding in place, bought it in Arnotts.

The new Creative Zen Nano is perfect I think. Flash memory, 1GB, has radio aswell. Very compact and ultra light. €99 in Peats, I think it's great!

depending on your needs/budget might be worth looking at the new Nike+iPod gear once some indepth reviews come out - works with the Nano and a special sensor that fits in specific Nike trainers:

also looks like they are planning on expanding the functionality in the future with details on a recent patent application publication here:

Go for the creative zen touch .... had one for ages and it never skipped while running ( incl. marathon training ) ..... but one word of advice FFS DON'T BUY AN IPOD !!! Had one and you couldn't even run on a treadmill with it.

Did you wear the player on an armband while you were running?

It's odd (and slightly off-topic) - iPod state that it's ok to jog/run with their player, but Creative specifically recommend that you not do so. I can understand their philosophy alright - giving a hard drive mechanical shocks is never a good thing. But it's annoying to be limited to a brisk walk by the mechanics of the player, and to be restricted to using a limited-capacity flash memory player.

iPod shuffle is fine for jogging and not bulky for the gym. Doesn't hold a whole load of songs though.

have the older version of this(was same but smaller took off market cos to expensive) and it ruled!! also have creative zens...the input on them breaks realy easily...ull get roughly a year out of it and it will be gone...

I've a samsung Yipee, available on komplett. the total dogs knackers...perfect for gym, running etc much better that nano or other "stylised media devices". it small compact, easy yo use, clip on, necklace headset available, actual very stylish as well, I've gone through about 5 different types including the Muvo, and this is one I would replace like with like. Builtin Radio... YP-F1X Eur123.... and no I don't work for Samsung :)

I wear it on the belt clip.

Yeah it is ironic that apple say it's OK running with an ipod yet you can't while creative say it's not recommended but it's fine ... says alot about the two companies I think !

i've done 3 marathons with my ipod shuffle with no problems. it holds about 200 songs, that is enough for any distance.

Hey i'm just trying to help people find a good Mp3 for training. The reason I brought it to market was cos I was sick of wires getting in my way at the gym... If it helps I don't see the harm in it, no??

You're wrong in fact. What you're doing is called shilling, and it's a pain in the hole. Thread locked.
