    Yo,

Saku was at UFC 60. The UFC ignored his presence. Now we all know I love trash talking th UFC so obviously I think it is BS that they interview D grade celebs rather than one of the all time great fighters. But what do you think? Over on the UG a load of people are claiming htey disrespected Japan. What do you guys think, is this yet another example of how Dana White is great for making money for the UFC, increasing its mainstreamness (but lets face it, marketed like this it will never be more than a sideshow), he is not the right man for the Job. Really just compare him to Takada....

    Peace

But but, they always have such great shots of the guy from King of Queens giving the thumbs up! Who needs Saku?

Dunno about disrespect but its a little poor not to give the man some recognition. But when you're talking about 2 competing companies who's interest in the sport lies in how much $$$ they can get out of it, its quite natural.

They didn't have that dude from the King of Queens last night. We were playing the UFC drinking game (it was a War!) and he was one of the celebs we had to drink to, the other being Michael Clarke Duncan.

Of course, everyone was excited to see The Rock in attendance, I still thought he'd come in and hit Big John McCarthy with the steal chair before Rock Bottoming Matt Hughes and then making Royce tap out to the Sharpshooter.

    Oh well...

its the old story of never mentioning the opposition
UFC rarely mention Japan based organisations (Pride, K-1, Pancrase .... )
They never ever mention US based organisations (KOTC, WFA or IFL .... )

Saku is rumoured to face BJ Penn / Rickson Gracie on the next K-1 Heros event. So maybe the UFC tried to sign Saku and lost out so as payback ignored him

Dana is a great businessman fullstop. FULLSTOP!!

He is trying to make himself the 'face' of the UFC & its ridiculous. He wants to be a celeb so bad and he is definately the wrong man for that job. I think Randy is the perfect man for that role. Did anyone see the countdown show to UFC 60? The first half of the show was pretty much Dana just talking and giving his opinions on the event and theres a whole section dedicated to him on the ufc60.com site 'ask Dana White'.

He just loves getting his mug on tv so people can recognise him on the street & hes doing it at the expense of the fighters he should be promoting.

I think the amount of time they would've had to spend to explain to the viewers who Saku was would've made it much less useful than 'here's Nicolas Cage:'I think he'll win"

What did everybody think of last night? Did anybody else see the ironic resemblance of last nights fight to Royce's early UFC fights? ie side control to mount, to rear mount, flattening his opponents out and goin for the rear naked? just basicly change the rear naked to a poundin!? For me Gracie JuJitsu won last night, Hughes used BJJ to dominate his opponent. I think it proved the game hasnt changed all that much, its just been takin to a higher level. What I mean by that is that its now clear to see that Gracies belief that all you need to do is BJJ is wrong. You now need athleticism, strengh, cardio, stamina, and agility- which you dont get from just rollin.

On a complete aside, there was a guy in the pub last night who had t-shirt that read "luck is the residue of blood, snot, sweat, and tears!", I thought it was pretty cool!

Saku has signed with k - 1. Who are working with the UFC to stop Pride becoming the absolute daddy. With luck we will see Saku, Genki and (i pray) JLB!!!! in the octagon smokin some fu!s!

    Peace

Expand a little Elytron. The second it hit the ground it was BJJ Hughes used to beat Gracie. Thats not to say well roundednes hasnt been what got Hughes to where he is, but last night Gracie JuJitsu won.

that and some wrestling. The way he pinned him down.

I don't think I like matt hughes much now that I saw him put a serious beating on Royce. I was seriously disappointed, he didn't even get a look in.

And I'm even more annoyed at Dana White and Co. for setting up this fight, it seemed like they did it just to further Hughes stardom.

But I suppose I'm just annoyed Royce didn't pull the wonderful submission we were all hoping for.

    :(

Do you think Royce wouldn't have gotten anything out of beating Hughes?

It's not like Royce took it to further Hughes' fame, or as if he was blackmailed or something

I was really hoping for Royce to win by Can Opener from guard, now that would have ROCKED!

As far as the UFC Saku thing, yeah, it was bull**** but hey, thats the UFC.

I'm suprised that Randy was allowed to point out that Royce "hasn't been sitting at home eating bon bons" but has been fighting in "Japan". Very odd that they would let him away with this!!!! :D

As for BJJ won that fight, lets be real here guys. Elytron is spot on, what won the fight is a combo of everything that Hughes brought to table, if ROyce has won it would have been a combo of everything that Royce brought to the table. Hughes whole point was that the game has changed, you can't really dominate people with one art anymore, you need to have everything.

In my opinion, to say that "BJJ won that fight" is to somehow imply that there was ever a doubt as to the effectivness of BJJ in an MMA environment. There never was, the battle at UFC 60 was more between mindsets than anything to do with "the effectiveness of BJJ". Hughes had never said that "BJJ is crap" he had said "You can't sit with one art, in this day and age and expect to dominate".

The is no doubt that a high and skillset in BJJ will have you dominating grappling tourneys around the world, but if you getting into a modern day MMA ring, you need to have that BJJ and a whole lot more. You need to be powerful for your weight class and a fast for you size.

This was pretty much shown on Sunday night, with what was already pointed out a role reversal from Royces early fights. Hughes was never gonna tap Royce, i reckon he could have tied that arm in a bow at he elbow and Royce would not have tapped , but Royce never gave ( me anyway ) the impression of being entirely able to deal with Huges in any situation then were in. That just my opinion mind.

I used to like Hughes, but now TBH he annoys me. I think its because he wears his religion on his sleeve.

He is a superb MMA wrassler though.

Many of them now seem to, Rich Franklin being another champ with a strong believe in God.

Maybe there are trying to really expand into bible bashing territory???:D

I read a few Jeff Monson interviews where he says he has a hard time because of his beliefs and politics, apparently it's a big deal.

I don't think Jeff was talking about getting grief over them, i think he meant that he felt like he was "feeding the machine" more than anything.

Dragan I think we'r pretty much in agreament. What Hughes represented last night was the new different mindset to MMA, he represented the total athlete. The the thing is though I found it ironic that Hughes totally dominated Royce using BJJ. BJJ not just in the sense of submissions but all the positional work that allowed him G n P him.The point is Hughes never needed the wrestling the strength the striking to beat Royce, he outclassed him at his own game!

Yeah Jeff Monson has some intelligent political ideas.

As for winning by BJJ and all that, there's no rocket science, Matt Hughes beat Royce Gracie.

    Peace

In my head it was a much bigger deal, turns out it was only one line in the interview.
I have taken quite a lot of criticism in the U.S. for speaking out against the war. I have been called unpatriotic and un-American, etc.

He was also investigated by the Secret Service or the CIA or something for appearing in an "Assassinate Bush" hoodie!!!

I love the way people confuse being concerened with the use of the lives of his fellow citizens with being "un-American". The very fact that someone would say that maybe war is bad is "un-American"??? I find that fantastic.

How come a populace that clings to the right to bear arms set out in its own constitution is blind to the fact that the constitution also implores them to overthrow any government that cannot lead them correctly???
