Does anyone have any pics of the Triumph in the film The Great Escape. I plan to modify my bike to look like it and I was hoping to get some nice stills of it somewhere as a reference point.

    Thanks

...sorry, I thought this was a posting about something else.......... namely a support group for those who've been lucky to unload their Triumph(s) after spending years restoring them only to find they were ****e when they're restored to 'as new' in the first place.............

    ....my search continues.

Btw: cure = modern bike with more volts than cylinders..........

I don't have a Triumph (thank Jeybus), just a bike that looks alot like one. I wouldn't touch a Triumph (new or old) with a 10 foot kick start.

Your loss. The Hinckley (post-1991) Triumphs are among the very best engineered and built bikes in the world, bar none, and have an excellent reputation for longevity.

no-one said they're not cool. And none of the ones above bear anything like a resemblance to Steve McQueen's one in the film...........apart from using the same fuel.

so, quit the hijacking.........and quit the 'ol verctically split crankcase whilst you're ahead.

Your bank manager, and your credit card, will thank me...........

Jesus you're a dry old ****e. No one said they were just cool anyhow, but some of the best bikes being made out there at the moment.

And if you want the Steve McQueen scrambler, they are making them now too anyhow.

Ah FFS, Steve McQueen did not have a scrambler in the film !!. He had a Triumph TT Special 650 made to look like a 1940's German army BMW. They used this because the original BMW's wouldn't have been able to perform the stunts that they needed for the film.

My OP (if anyone read it) was requesting any decent pics of the bike. My own bike (Kawasaki W650) bears a canny resemblance to the TT and would make a great platform for a replica.

So if no-one can be of any help then please don't bother replying in this thread. The last thing I wanted was an argument about the build quality of Triumph motorbikes.

    Have a look at: http://www.battlefield-travel.com/popup/1796

Here's a pic of a 1962 bonnie - great escape was made in 63 so this is probabaly pretty close, though the pipe looks a bit different.

Though I think 63 was a year that they changed the engine so ...

Pic of a '64, other side (unbelieveable condition, similar to above)

    K-Tric,

Here are some pics from the movie. In a lot of the distance shots, the bike is too small and in a lot of the close ones, the pic is more of McQueen rather than the bike.

    Hope this helps a bit,

    L.

You must post pics of the Bike once you're done.
