    Hi

Got oblivion a few days ago and its hung/crashed a few times. Its always seems to be the same reason, when the game is about to start to load the audio for a given conversation.

If you reload the machine and go back to the same points its fine. The dvd looks grand. No scratches or blemishes and nothing else crashes the machine...

Ive heard oblivion can be a bit buggy, has anyone else seen this?

Try clearing the hard drives cache when you ppower it up (hold A till the delveopers logo loads)

If that dont work, try load an older save, or going about the quest differently, saving - and see what happens.

just got both 360 and oblivion and having probs with it reading the disc if the xbox is upright and when its flat it works and the video keeps skipping, im thinking my problem might be the xbox as its the only game i have but im not sure.

    This might help

    Officially from Bethesda:

"Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.

To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the “Bethesda Softworks” logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.

Note, this does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data."

    Thanks Ronan / Irish Grimpy,

That sounds really like the problem as i also have noticed the performance of the game dropping off if you play it for a long period which seemed a bit weird on a disc based console game (been a pc man all my life!), although id forgotten about caching...

    ill try it and see....

it could be fragmenting as i have the hard disk half full of demos and HD trailers

Kristok, i had my xbox upright at first but i keep it flat as it seems to cause less drive noise and i was worried about disc scratching

i found i was having the same probs with dvds so assume its the drive not the game brought it back to hmv today for a refund not bothered testing hardware for ms ill give it another go in a few months when i get a hd tv and theres more than one decent game on the system, I was very underwhelmed by the 360 only good thing I found was downloading the demos.
