Updated To 1.3 - Now Can't Login...

I've updated to V1.3 and ever since then I haven't been able to get a solid login to any account server. Is this a common issue? Is there a fix knocking about that I should know about?

When I'm loggin it takes ages Its starting to really get annoying, I've pretty much given up playing lately.

seriously this game is fcuked up, so annoying all these problems... css isnt even finished and its more stable

I had already reviewed that help thread (and I've just done so again to be on the safe side ) but it didn't help a bit.

I don't get CTDs, I didn't change any BF2.EXE files, I don't have in-game browser issues yet as I can't get the damn login to work.

It just sits there trying to connect, but never actually loggin into an account server.

Any suggestions?

Sounds to me like a firewall issue. Once the game was updated you would have had to give permission for the BF2.exe file to access the internet connection.

You said that you had a slow login problem meaning that you do login but it takes ages. Is this the caes or is it not loggin in at all?

Not at all = firewall like Lister explained.

It worked fine with 1.22 ?

It did indeed turn out to be a firewall issue, although I've no idea why this time around it was borked, when every previous iteration was fine. A quick manual reset of the FW program rules and everything was ok again.

Once and EXE has changed the firewall will think it has been compromised and check it validity.

It worked fine with old patch. It does login but just takes it time about doing it.

The problem is that if for example you have 30 servers in your favourites and 20 have yet to update to patch 1.3 then that's 20 * 5 seconds of an extra wait to log in.



Try this :

1 ) Open up the general.con file in \Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 and delete all your server favourites.

or

2) Run BF2 and go to your favourite servers. Delete all those that are listed RED. Every server in red will add 5 seconds onto the time it takes to connect to the account server.

No probs, its caught me out before and on a couple of other games as well.


Nice tip on the red server issue as well Ponster. I wasn't aware of that one and anything that cuts down the load time is a bonus.

Anyone have to wait for ages for the "verify data" bit after you load a map?
You shouldn't have to wait more than about 30 seconds.
