Selling a phone on eBay, i have the postage costs specified, for national and international buyers.

So i get a question, from a member who registered today, apparently in London. She is buying the phone for her friend in Nigeria. Straight away...i thought scam.

But she mentioned she will be paying through paypal. Is the seller covered when accepting money through paypal?

why don't you post a copy of the email she sent. They usually follow a particular form and are easy to spot.

Thats a scammer all right, same stupid email alot of people get. They usually have some really unbelieveable name and call themselves Mr or Mrs , not many people do that when referring to themselves !!.

The dead give away is them asking you to send it to Nigeria, scoop up a pile of your dogs best work and send it to them, make sure you declare the value to be €150 and hopefully they will get stung paying customs duty but probably not.

probably a stolen card. if you sell to them you will get a chargeback in short order. i would'nt even send a box of matches to nigeria.

    1) "She" didn't address you by name ie. general email
2)"She" told you she was a "business woman". Why? To give her an air of respect (spelling correctly and proper punctuation might have done "her" better.
3)Hes acting as a woman as you would generally be more trusting and patient with a woman (IMO)
4)"She" never refers to your phone, always calling it an item. He even calls it "lovely" lols!
5)If he is looking for the amount total I'm sure they will soon be looking to buy this outside of eBay. You would be losing out on the protection and security of eBay.

I think spoof this bastard back. Go through all the motions, see if he'll give you the money through his scammed paypal account, then report him.:)

Indeed, this is most definitely a scam. They say they will pay through PayPal but they will just send you a spoof email pretending to be from PayPal saying that you've received payment.

Sending a pile of dog doo-doo is the least these people deserve. If you're selling a phone on eBay, you should also watch out for these people bidding on your auctions, if you see anyone with 0 feedback and recently registered bidding on your phone, email them and if you don't hear back or if you receive an email like the one above in return, cancel their bid(s) and block them from your auctions. Your Buyer Block Requirements should also help you to avoid this type of scammer.

I am sure they would have less of an issue if they just won the auction normally and paid the money like everyone else...

The thing is, sometimes they do win auctions normally and then they send an email similar to the one above.
