Using AIM on DCU's proxy

Computer Services couldn't figure out how to get my AOL Instant Messenger to connect. I've tried using Auto Config and even when it finds ports that they say will work, I still can't connect.

Does anyone have any suggestion on what port I should be using on the AOL Server and Proxy Server?

    try meebo instead
    http://www.meebo.com/
or proxy1.dcu.ie with port 3128 in the proxy settings

Here are the settings that are working here:

Select SOCKS 5 as the protocol
enter the proxy server host: proxy1.dcu.ie
enter the proxy server port: 1080

You could try using http-tunnel with it. It will bypass the firewall. Change your settings to Socks 5, IP= 127.0.0.1 and Port= 1080. If you do use this, you'll need to keep it up to date as changes are often made to the software.

Strictly speaking "HTTP tunnelling, or the use of other mechanisms, which circumvent network security" is not allowed in DCU. But then again I used it all year with a file sharing application. My philosophy being, rules are meant to be broken:rolleyes:

Surely you could use the http proxy like everyone else... Works for msn, googletalk and all web browsers... (Damn aim being crappy :p)

Http proxy info: proxy.dcu.ie port: 8080

    Meh! Good luck.
