Classic commercials;

Is anyone interested in classic commercial vehicles? A group of classic trucks came over from the U.K. a couple of weeks ago, 30 in all, and went on a tour of west Cork and Kerry. A friend of mine organised the run and I helped out on Saturday in case anyone broke down. I have photos if anyone's interested.
I was looking at a 1961 Austin Fire engine last week so it looks like I'll need more room.:D

    It might be.;)
Your not going to Youghal tomorrow corktina, I'm just back from there and there's a lovely gold Mk.5 Cortina on U.K. plates parked in the line up.

If I had to have a classic van I would love the old Bedford CF type. I just think they are so groovey in a late 60’s early 70’s US kind of way. I know they were rubbish really but still they have a big following among classic van enthusiasts but some have been modded grotesquely in an attempt to get them to look like that monstrosity of a van the A team used.

Failing that I would love one of the first type Ford Transit vans. Though not with the sliding doors that this one has which spoils the smooth lines.
The Transit was the first van that I wanted so there must be something nice about it. I still think the original design has not dated.

That's just the inner Garda coming out ;)

I've always hankered after a Scammell Constructor. Akward to park on a drive though.

if you want a cheap, clean, low mileage fire truck get yourself over to withams in england

    www.witham-sv.com

they have a fleet of ex reserve green goddess fire engines, these things are immaculate.

although withams have stripped them of the hose and ladders etc so you have to buy them seperately.

they must have hundreds of the things, prices are dropping all the time

they are also available with all the gear here

or in NI riot spec here

about an hour and a half from stanstead :)

I would not mind having a yoke like this - handy to move all the rubble we have around here. Could something like this be owned and insured as a 'working classic' :p

Cool..I didn't see this thread lol.

I like Classic Commercial vehicles. My favorite is the Toyota Dyna 1977-1984.

I also like the ERF B series and old Hinos. I also like old truck bodys.

Did you manage to find that guys number with the Dyna in Cork?

    Thanks again ;)

    Hi Irish-trucker,

Same as me but we still have some Dyna BU30s.

The F10 is some truck...I remember an F10 pulling a lowloader with an excavator took down a lamp post near were I lived in the mid 1990s...I thought they were so big!

Classic & Vintage Commercials magazine had a restoration of A 141 recently.

I will watch out for any of these around for you :)

Anyone interested in a Bedford fire engine? Rolls Royce petrol engine which runs apparently, its in fairly good condition with low mileage, 5-600 euros.

I do remember two of those transit vans up to recently in the cork area, one was in the Rathcormac area, an early version without the sliding doors, used by a tyre company, although that was up to I995. At the same time there was a blue transit van in use in the fermoy area, although rather battered around the edges, it had replacement aluminium panels fitted, again around I993.
