Just wondering what is the reference that comes through on your bank statement from their direct debit?

Need to cancel the damn thing.

I remember when I joined (about 8 years ago) they said -

Minimum 1 year contract with 6 months notice

I said, no thanks bye bye.

Luckily it was the owner (the bloke, not jackie skelly as they try to make you believe!) rather than one of their complete retard receptionists, so he let me have whatever I wanted. Basically no contract and no minimum notice.

With my bank, the bank instructed them not to take anymore, but they kept doing so. I read the riot act to my bank and to the dozey cow in Park West, I got refunded in the end.

Meh, were you in your contract or not?

I think I was, but contracts can be terminated.

I think I was, but contracts can be terminated.

    At what cost??
Generally a contract can only be terminated within the first 14 days (Your cooling off period). You could well have to pay a handsome fee to terminate the contract.

To the OP, what have they done thats so bad you want to cancel the contract.

I'm not sure how they kept taking money out of your account if your bank did cancel it. It's not like we can all just grab each other's money at the drop of a hat. Your bank works for you, and should do as they're told. Contracts etc do not come into the cancelling of a DD.

I was a member of Jackie Skelly's once, while ago now. I cancelled my DD, and had a phone call along the lines of Them: "You can't do that, you have to give two months notice" Me: "Well I did it." *shrug*

Then they wrote to me to actually offer me a cheaper rate than I had been getting to come back to them. This actually made me angrier. If I had been a loyal customer paying up and saying nothing they'd still have charged me the higher rate, I imagine.

You sure? It comes out of my acocunt as "JACKIE SKELLY FITNES" and I'm with them years.

The direct debit that I have with them is paid with my Credit Card so if I ever decide to cancel my subscription with them I'm just gonna cancel my credit card.

How much notice do u need to give and is it written or verbal?

I joined the one in Clarendon Street but want out once my year is up.

Do it in writing so that you have an actual record of the cancellation.

Jackie Skelly shows up on my bank statement as:
"DD OP/ MAP DANCE LTD 091"

This is for the Ashbourne one, which in fairness to them, I've never had any problems with. A slightly over-enthusiastic instructor in the mornings but overall it's fairly good and always kept very clean...

I don't agree with them "bribing" you to come back with a reduced offer, but when I heard of another member basically being offered reduced rates to get his girlfriend to join, I had a word with the manager who "re-evaluated" my monthly charge!!! Worth a go, I did this in the last gym I was a member of too (Sheldon Park) and they gave me a Corporate Group rate (for 3 of us!).

I meant to add, as far as I know, I don't have a contract with Jackie Skelly. I pay them on a monthly basis and if I want to cancel it, I will instruct my bank to not pay them anymore. (I've had to do this in writing to the bank in the past, they won't take a phone call for that)

Just out of interest, how much is everybody paying for their subscription to Jackie Skelly's?
When I joined it was 59 per month but recently they upped the payment to 60 per month without any warning. I was gonna complain but somehow never got around to doing so.

€65, terrible for the pieces off **** equipment they give you.

I joined UCD Crunch for €200 for the year.

I complained when they upped the payment from €60 to €61 without informing anyone. And now they're offering an "upgraded" membership for an extra €9 per month making it the same price as Westwood, which is a lot bigger and a hell of a lot better!

€65 a month for me too (in Swords)
