So i bought a new car and sound system the works etc

My flatmate said his bird had a JCV cd player that was bought for 200 euros that she wasnt using.. he said she would sell it for 80 euros

No bother, bought the stereo and the CD player didnt work on it, so my flatmate said he would get it fixed (would only cost about 20 euros or so)

She didnt offer to give me my money back and he dropped it into the shop today.

Just rang there and said that the guy in the shop said the lazer in it was probably broken and it would cost 100 euros to get fixed.

So that would bring the price of a second hand stereo that was bought 2 years ago or so for 200 euros up to 180 euros to get up and running.

He rang there and said his bird offered to pay '30 or 40 quid' off the repairs (how nice of her)

After a quick look around the net, I found an irish site that sells a Sony cd, mp3 and ipod input point for 150 euros new with warranty

He already handed the stereo in to yer man to be fixed (without asking me first) so somebody is going to have to pay the 100 euros cost.

When I bought the stereo I bought it in the faith that it worked for 80 euros, when it didnt work it was s*it but I was reassured that it would be fixed.

Now I have this extra expense sprung on me, and I am far from made of money.

I dont want to be a awkward c*nt and cause a big fuss but at the same time I feel like I'm being taken for a c*nt by her.

    What would you do?

It's never a great idea to get into money matters with friends. I'd have a word with your friend, and just tell him it isn't on. But I think these two might be a problem, she has offered to pay 30-40e off it? That is a p1ss take. I hope you get your money back, but I doubt it :/

    What would you do?

Give it back to her and ask for your money back.
She sold you something that didn't work.

I had a similar situation happen to me, if your mate and his missus are miserable enough to not offer a full refund and take the thing back, then they need to be kicked to the curb (whilst clicking fingers Rikki Lake style :D )

You should get the head unit, and bring it round to their house - they owe the money for it so they should pay. You go off and buy your own!

    only thing to do!

maybe ya should have checked to see if it worked before ya handed over the cash?! since it was 2 years old it could have taken a few knocks... just what i'd have done!
