I've seen it and it's hilariously OTT, a triumph of style over substance. The plot's utterly insane, with enough random threads to make three or four movies and the act's generally so hammed up that the film could make a sideline selling sausages but so what? Rarely had such a good time with a movie - and yes, it's very violent.

Hmm, haven't seen this yet, but based on ixoy's recommendation it's now on my list.

Is this the one with Paul Walker?

Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) is a low level mob flunkie whose role is to dispose of "hot" guns from mob killings. We soon find out that Joey has been hiding these guns in the drywall of his basement, instead of tossing them in the river. When Joey's 10 year-old son (Alex Neuberger) and his best friend, Oleg (Cameron Bright), witness Joey hiding some guns from a botched drug deal, Oleg steals one of the guns -- a snub-nosed .38 (used to kill a dirty cop) -- and shoots his abusive stepfather (Karel Roden) with it. Things would be bad enough if the stepfather didn't happen to be the nephew of a psychotic Russian mob boss (John Noble)... who happens to be in business with Joey's crew on a gasoline scam. But now Joey's also got the surviving dirty cop (Chazz Palminteri) from the botched drug deal on his case... and that hot .38 out there on the street, changing hands in an underworld of freaks, pimps, hookers and pedophiles. As well as Oleg, who can connect Joey to the gun. And even if Joey can make it through the night, he's still got to answer to his wife (Vera Farmiga)...

    Sounds good!

Pretty good. Seems like something Bruce Willis would have made 10 years ago when he wasn't quite 'A' list for a while.

Oh, that movie....wasn't that in the cinema recently? A 15-a film if a remember correctly so couldn't be THAT violent....unless I'm thinking of a different Paul Walker film...

Yeah.. watched this last Sunday and was ready to post a thread with the title:

"Running Scared... was it wrong that i enjoyed it?"

Glad to see other people liked it.. but Paul Walker is without doubt, the hammiest actor ever! :D

It is quite violent but more shock value violence than anything such as
the hockey pucks to the face (the sheer amount of blood in that scene alone!) and the two sick child killers being shot twice from close range

But i did enjoy it... ending was horrible though!

HaVok - it's not the type of "guts'n'gore" violence - more violent in terms of clinical brutality and a bit of shock value.

    Basquille, as to the ending:
Paul Walker has said in a "Dark Horizons" interview that he begged with the producers to let his character die at the end of the movie but they wouldn't let him. That ending would have made far more sense than the one we got! Stupid Hollywood execs...

    Here's the relavent excerpt:
Walker: We played with the ending a bit when I was dying on the front lawn. And there were variations where we went for that, but maybe it was just too wordy. I think we just decided it happens off screen. I wanted to die. I thought that should have been the end of the movie, but that was just my opinion.

Question: Who talked you guys down from that one?

Walker: Wayne. Wayne wanted a happy ending.

Question: So, in the script was there always that scene at the end?

Walker: Yeah, it was always there. As soon as I saw it, I was like, "I should just die, Wayne ." Actually when were filming I think I told him, "I should just die."

    Question: What was his reaction?

Walker: He just likes the idea of everyone coming together. Because the real victim is Oleg. He looses his mother in the whole bit. Let the kids just come out all right. Maybe that has something to do with him having a son, maybe that's sensitive for him, I dunno.

I agree with Mr. Walker. Oh well...

Very interesting. I think I will rent this at the weekend. Looked a bit corny and cliched for my liking when I saw the in-cinema trailer but seems to be alot better then that...:)

Excellant film. It was something I looked forward to see'ing for ages and was'nt disappointed when I finally did. I The kind of film that should come with a six pack and pizza. Anyone else think it was like an 18's version of Adventures in Babysitting.

The R1 version is supposed to be far more violent.
