Dublin rockers Large Mound play their first headline gig of 2006 in The Tap, North King Street, Dublin on Sunday June 4th. We'll be playing a whole load of new songs that we're currently writing and recording. Also on the bill for the night are Spook Of The 13th Lock and Motherfudge. We'll have DJs and other stuff happening too. It's only 5 euros in and goes on until late. Who said there's no value to be had in this city anymore?

    Date: Sunday June 4th
    Band: Large Mound
Venue: The Tap, North King Street, Dublin
    Doors: 9pm until late
    Admission: 5 Euros

    Large Mound Biog:

Large Mound used to be about the music. These days Large Mound is mainly about the amount of guitars they can reasonably get away with using. They've moved away from the 'heres a riff, heres a song!' philosophy that marked Anthony's early 4 track dabblings, but the basic goal of mainly downstroke rock has remained the same. They're trying to work 3rd and 4th riffs into songs this weather though.

Theres been 7" singles and split singles, the odd compilation contribution and two full length albums, Raised on Rock in 2002 on Julius Geezer Records and Go Forth And Amplify on Scientific Laboratories in 2004. There's been some line-up changes too, but the band have never had to look far to find new players.

Taking most of 2005 off save for a few Canadian dates and a slot opening up for Mudhoney in Dublin, Large Mound are back with new songs and a monster new drummer in 2006. There'll be another album out this year and as many gigs as they can manage with some more UK dates planned.

    What The Press Say:

".. one day they will be looked upon as one of the best Irish rock bands of their time. Go Forth and Amplify is a tender and poignant manifestation of the metal dream"
    Leagues O'Toole, Irish Examiner

"Go Forth And Amplify is seldom bereft of direction. It Is, in fact, a rather charming proposition, coyly lovelorn and brimming with melodies. As sweet and beguiling as a schoolyard crush"
The Irish Times, review of Go Forth And Amplify.

"Mixing melodic pop with full-on rock, Large Mound are in irresistable form."
    Edel Coffey, The Sunday Tribune.

"incisive rock tantrums and impressive pop hooks ... Where the Mound clearly take their cues from US rock, punk and metal benchmarks, they rarely jettison melody for mindless riffola, but rather accommodate both .......... blinding start-to-finish rocker"
The Irish Times, review of Raised on Rock.

"... 'If Only I Hadn't Been Born' is a stone cold classic, immaculate guitar riffs and lyrics of disillusionment, it's stirred out of it's apathy by the self explanatory 'Rather Be Rockin', which does exactly what it says on the tin ... 'Raised On Rock' is available at a knock down price, giving great value, great songs, a great album, but, above all, great rock"
The Dublin Event Guide, review of Raised on Rock

"Growling guitars buzz over scattershot drums and rumbling drums, sounding all the more strange complimented with a plaintive vocal delivery and a minimum of shouting ... This is primal pop punk that hasn't lost it's sense of humour and sounds all the more special for it"
Hot Press, review of Raised on Rock

"Perhaps Large Mound are trying to give guitar lovers fourteen lessons in the school of classic rock with 'Go Forth and Amplify'. On this evidence, they sure sound like they know what they're teaching."
    rte.ie

"Aside from being masters of brevity, the beauty of Large Mound comes from the fact they are obviously former metal kids having a laugh while playing at indie rock. How do we know this? Well it's obvious from their mighty riffs, witty lyrics, the complete lack of pretension to their craft and the fact that in their liner notes they credit the guitar solos in each song to the axeman responsible, just like Slayer used to (and probably still do)."
    David Roy, The Irish News
