Could just be the surface or mouse pad you're using the mouse on. Try different surfaces (colour/texture, etc)

Optical mice have always given me massive headaches.

My advice: go to Maplins (if you're in Dublin) near Jervis St. and grab a 3 button roller-ball mouse. Cheap as chips and relibale as can be.

What do you expect from a crap mouse?

Next time go with Logitech or Razer or even Microsoft.

Common problem with cheap optical mice - although not as severe as you describe...

Whenever I play games online with my cheap optical, once every 15 or so minutes the mouse starts spinning - or rather, on screen, my gun points towards the ground and starts spinning wildly :D

Probably because it's connected to a crappy dell or something...........

Yeah same thing happens me. Had a cheapo logitech optical mouse and playing cs it would freeze the game at the ground or lock the screen at a wall, change weapons on me also. The main line is get a decent optical mouse or get a RAZOR diamondback or even better my favourite the Copperhead. Then you will have no problems and a very fast and precise mouse.
