Took part in WKA Qualifiers - Dear GOD!!

    Hi everyone,
I just took part in the WKA Qualifers yesturday for the N.Ireland Team, I haven't been kickboxing properly since about 4 years ago (I just to Kickbox 5 times a week), but finally got my act together and started training over a month ago, I found the qualifers were on and decided to go for it cause I used to be good and was away a few times at the World Championships and loved taking part in them. So I decided to fight semi and light.

Dear god I don't know what was going on in my head, I couldn't get my nerves sorted, actually went on the mats without my head guard and my legs just turned to lead. This usually doesn't happen to me I like a bit of nerves as it gets me going, but they took over altogether, the girl I was fighting was actually beating me by 6 points at the start but I finally woke up and came back and she won by 12 - 9. She was a good fighter and had a great jab. Then in Light I don't know why but I was fighting in a points stance, but came third then so I've still qualified for the WKA'S in November. When I got off the mats one of my coaches actually asked me what happened was I drinking the night before (which of course wouldn't do), but I was actually working till 4am and was totally exhausted the day of the fight.

Has it ever happened to you that your nerves take over altogether and you just seem to 'freeze'? I'm going started training properly now back to 5-6 days, actually going for a 4 mile run tonight after work, but do you's have any advise on how to stop your legs becoming dead weights when your fighting ? Anyone else fight in them yet?

Sure did, when I went back competing I couldn't shake the nerves no matter what. I used to lose fights against guys I know I could beat easily, as you say the legs went into lead pipes!

Anyway well done on your qualification... enjoy Spain!

Know exactly what you're talking about, when i started MA i was pretty decent and won a few things here and there but nowadays i get very nervous and it puts me off competition completely.

I don't know is it fear of losing, injuries in the past , pressure to perform or what but my stomach is all over the place and I make stupid mistakes trying too hard instead of fighting my fight.
