    Hi Guys,

Why do people wear gloves in the gym and is it worth my while getting a pair?

Also if I do how much will they cost on average and what should I look out for?

    Best regards,

I wear gloves doing weights and on the rowing machine to stop getting hard skin on my palms (just under my fingers). Got a pair in Elverys and a pair in Argos for about €15.

Hey dude, people will wear gloves to pretty much save there hands from callousing, and some people feels it adds to what they can grip and hold in terms of weight.

When buying a glove it is worth looking out for a nice tight fit, so that the material doesn't bunch when you grip the bar. I would suggest a good leather glove over something like the cheap Neo rubber gloves from Argos etc.

It's worth spending a bob or two as a good pair will last you for many years.

Meh, I got a piar in argos before, they were pure turd.

There's no real need for gloves unless you're some sort of hand model and need to preserve them

ooh, flashback to an identical thread from a few months ago that caused war here...:p

you can get world gym gloves from workout world on the keys, nice and soft, hard-wearing. Like Dragan said, probably best only to use to protect your hands from callousing, or if the gym doesn't provide chalk.

    Thanks guys,

    But I don't want to start a war. :D

Do gloves affect your grip in a significent way and if so would they affect the way you do a movement, say for example a Lat Pull Down? I find with this that sometimes my forearms get more tired than anything else and think I am gripping too tightly/wrongly etc and that gloves would help.

    What y'all think?

Hey man, if you grip is letting you down a little on the heavier weights it may be worth while to get straps. Sure, working on your grip is very important, so only use the straps on your last/heaviest set but there is no point in compromising the development of strenght in your back just to have a stronger grip!!!!

Straps i feel would be better for this than gloves.

I wear gloves sometimes cos my hands can get clammy/sweaty.
Even when I'm not at the gym it happens, at random...
    It's a condition I think.. can't remember what it's called.
But yeah.. that's why I wear gloves
