folks, i had my digi box replaced about 2 weeks by by sky, the old one was a grundig and i had it about 6 years, the new one, thompson, although more stylish keeps dropping the signal, no signal being recieved comes up every 10 mins in bad weather especially..... now since there was nothing done to the mini dish, just a swap out from 1 box to the other, could it be the box that is at fault ?

Who ever Sky sent out to you should have checked your dish and lnb to see what condition they are in also he should have checked your signal with his meter. get back on to sky tell them your not happy about this and they will send him or some else back out, You have an extended warranty for 3 months since the box was changed

Yes, scaller is right - the guy they sent out should have checked it.
What sometimes happens is the dish and lnb don't quite pair up properly.
I found that with my own 2 dishes and recievers - only one lnb would work with one box. And not vice-versa!

Well it's a little off the point, but i object to the term engineer being used for them.
They are not engineers. They usually have sat no set course, or qualified in anything. Though experienced as many of them are and most of them very good at their job, there are a few cowboys out there too. Like every trade, really.

It's really a PR thing for sky - most people think "great, an engineer is going to fix all my problems".

Obviously, you had a bit of a fool out. He did a bad job from start to finish. Odds are, he'll be back.

At best they are technicians. "Engineer" implies a Masters or at least 3rd level qualification and Design expertise & experience.
