[iPod]Shuffling PL but not Album

I have a 60GB iPod video and I have made smart playlists in iTunes and in iTunes I have them set to shuffle but on the ipod they do not shuffle unless shuffle is turned on on the ipod. I don;t want to turn it on because I like to listen to albums in orderbut playlists randomly. Is there anything I can do?
