    Hey,
I plan on buying new hi hats and a new snare.
Ideally I'd like to spend around 200 on the hi hats and around 250 on the snare.

I play metal and these will be mostly used for recording.
Can you recommend anything or give me any advice?

Just head into a shop and try out as much as you can. Traditionally for rock music, you'd use something along the lines of a 14" x 6" snare, a snare on the larger scale, but what the snare is made of is entirely up to your tastes. I have a Pearl birch snare which I think does well in rock or metal music, maple too is worth checking out but a steel shell always works well in metal.

As for cymbals, again just go in and play some. Sabian AA Rock hats are pretty nice, but you might decide otherwise. Try whatever you can and then price it from the likes of thomann.

You can generally get some astoundingly good deals on snares and such during the sale season down in Musicmaker if you're based in Dublin.

I'd agree with Doc on this one...
..maybe head in and try a few different ones out...my guess is if your drumming yu should always try to buy at least one top quality snare...doesnt mean has to cost a thousand bucks...just something with real quality *same with ride cymbal by the way!*.....Metal snares are 2 a penny..but there are some top notch ones too...for a goood balance between attack of metal and warmth of wood - Copper snare drums fit the bill,,some excellent ones out there and well worth trying out.

Hi Hats...Id strongly recomend New Beat Hi Hats by Zildjian they were going for E200 from Thoman on Hot Deals..what a steal compared to here.,,top notch , veryyy adaptable and just as good as youl get for any music.

    hope this helps...ciao amigo...Baggio.....
