Hey people, I got this link from the fitness links sticky,
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/h...00/2132209.stm

Is this really a make your own isotonic drink and is it effective? Like basicallly its just sugared water. Is normal sugar not different to glucose?
Recently I have been told by my dentist that I have to stop drinking sugary drinks as my teeth are in bits, I play rugby and used consume quite a lot of sports drinks, now I realise powerade and Lucosade sport is laden with sugar but I thought that half of this was just to make it taste nice, is it possible to have an isotonic drink, or recovery drink that does not have so much sugar in it.

    Cheers for the help

    Regards

    link is gone??

The idea is to have a drink with the same amount of glucose in it as is normally in your blood, i.e isotonic with your blood sugar.

If you go to any supermarket you can buy bags of glucose for about a euro, just mix in the desired amount and drink (pure glucose is fairly bland actually, hence fructose is used in most soft drinks)

Although no dentist, i'd imagine its all the other sh1t in the likes of lucozade and coke etc that do the damage, e.g phosphoric acid in coke

Tribulus here is the link again.

OP I've had a look at the 'recipies' for the isotonic sports drinks and they are not too bad on the Sugar content (5~7%).

Most recent studies have shown that
    1. Glucouse is more easily absorbed by the body (table sugar has a much more complicated chemical structure that takes longer to be broken down)
    2. It has been found before that a concentration of 8~12% glucouse (this is the concentration found in lucozade sport and the like) is quickly absorbed by into the blood stream. Any higher concentration causes the body to further dilute the solution in the stomach before absorbtion.
*** However more recently it being recommended that if you use commercial Sports Drinks that you dilute them before drinking***

If you are going to make your own sports drink, use glucouse (5~7g per 100ml) ~ it dissolves more easily, it is more quickly absorbed. Use a sugar free cordial and a pinch of salt to help replenish electrolytes.

    Good Luck
