Everthing about RTE Rugby coverage gets on my nerves.

The preasenter fella, George Hook, Tracy "Feckin" PIGott, Ryle Nugent, Tony Ward, Jim Sherwin.

    What a shower!

Well done Munster. Great atmosphere. We have reached the holy grail.:)

At least Ryle was impartial today! :p

hook is an idiot, laying heaps of praise on o'gara when in 2 weeks time in new zealand he will be on his back again. As for Ryle Nuggent he would want to go and read the rules of rugby. Now i dont mind him being a bit biased but he was dreaming up offences in munsters favour today!

I can't stand Ryle Nugent purely because his voice grates me. I like George Hook but I don't like the fact that he regularly goes against the grain in rugby - and today once again his predictions have been proven wrong. I think Brent Pope should run for President of Ireland. He's a top bloke.

The whole RTE production is a joke. As for george hook's rant about how RTE has been good for irish rugby , my bollox.

They have ignored irish grass roots rugby completely. They show the AIB finals and thats it, wow great job their lads. Ignored the Celtic league aswell, wasnt seen as "attractive" enough no doubt. THey have only shown HC because it will get the viewers.

Setanta have been brilliant. CL coverage, schools rugby and the u19s world cup.

I am delighted RTE have lost the coverage. Maybe now they will make a decent bid for CL rights. i doubt it though.

As for tracey piggot, she really needs to stick to the horses. Actually, get a horse to interview the players. It would do a better job.

I reckon that would be a great idea. You know if Mr. Ed is still available?

O'Connell looked a bit like he would've preferred a horse to kiss him :)

Television channels choosing to show games that will bring the most viewers...... imagine that. Hook had a point, his point was that when RTE shows a game in Ireland it is free to air and games generally get ratings in the hundreds of thousands. It makes rugby much more accessible to the public, and raises awareness among people who have no connections to the game (in the gaa/soccer strongholds). When the competition moves to sky less irish people will get to see it and the ones who do will mostly already have an interest in rugby.

His reference to johnny wilkinson was to do with some study he's pointed out before which said that a suprising percentage of kids in england have no idea who johnny wilkinson is.

I'm not saying RTEs coverage is perfect by any means but it is important that they show the HEC because its the type of competition that captures kids imaginations.

I have to agree though that i can't f*cing stand tracey pigott. how the hell did she weazel her way into RTE, she is useless. I find her so unlikable, the stuff she was involved in today was the most cringeworthy i've ever seen - even from her. fookin' fire her!

I think nuggent is ok,when Biarritz got their first try today nuggent remarked that the touch judge must have been looking at Sereli Bobo's bottom instead of his feet(because bobo was in touch)
we all like the gay jokes, good man ryle

well I pay for the sky sport pretty much for the rugby and I pay my tv License and I will be damned if I will pay for Setanta sports as well. I really would love to watch the CL games but the only place I can watch it is on welsh TV often in Welsh!!! I have nothing againist the Welsh language but I was just thinking could we even get the CL on RTE now they have lost the HK. We are giving out that there is no intrest in the league and I think this would be a prefect way to get people into the league.

I like RTEs coverage of all sport. Their studio pundits are excellent, not afraid to spoeak their mind and there's always a heated argument. In Dunphy and Hook, they have two of the most controversial and in many ways thought provoking pundits, while Giles, Brady, Pope, O Shea are all iteeligent sportsmen who know what they're talking about. Compare this to the inane crap that the likes of Ian Wright and Graham Le Saux come out with and we have no reason to complain. Admittedly Nugent is a prat though.

i thought Ryle Nugent's commentry was so biased yesterday, it defied belief - yes i was up for munster , but thought in the main commentators should be somewhat neutral .

Ryle Nuggent? Never heard of him. Ryle Nugent? Now that sounds more correct. Not the worst of commentators in my opinion. Himself and Ralph Keyes make quite a good team.
I think that RTE's coverage of the Heineken Cup has been very professional over the past few years. It's a shame to see them lose it. I don't have Sky or Setanta so I will be reduced to watching highlights next season.
As regards Tracey Piggot......yeah I agree with the previous sentiments.

The whole RTE production is a joke. .

Explain. Do you mean that the RTE coverage of the Heineken Cup is a joke? Regardless of what matches they are allowed to cover, you are saying that the "Production" is a joke. In what sense?

more than anything RTE coverage is funny, the hook hooch when BOD was prostituting himself was classic

apoligises, not sure if production is the right word to describe it, dont know what the word is too descibe it is.

Basically there whole coverage is a joke. From the presenter to the all the way through.

Tom Mcgurk is the most clueless presenter i have ever seen, hes up their with Bill O'heirly. He doesnt seem to know anything about the sport, although he played it didnt he? You'd swear hes never seen a rugby match before in his life. He makes stupid points, asks stupid questions and continuously gets things wrong.

Now on to george hook. When he actually stops trying to say things just to be controversial he comes up with some very good points. The porblem is, 99% of the time he is trying to be controversial. He doesnt seem to say things he actually believes in, but just says it because its goes against everyone else. Hes the Eamon dunphy of rugby. Nice trend here aswell, RTE's sports shows are full of clowns.

No probelms with pope or o'shea. But very good.

Now on to the commentators. Ryle Nugen first up. He probaly has one of the worst voices in the world. It actually wants to make you mute the tv and watch it in silence its that bad. His knowledge of the game is limited aswell. Tony ward is a bit unhealthy obesses with BOD for my liking. Not the worst though, neitheri s ralph keys i suppose.

Then we have george hamiltion. The chap is a woeful soccer commentator, i am amazed he even gets asked to do rugby. Probaly becuase RTE are too cheap/lazy to find someone else.

Everyone knows what tracey piggot is like.

Luckily i have sky sports already. So whenever i get the chance i always watch it over RTE. At least i have a choice over pay for sky sports. I am forced to pay for RTE. At this is the sh*t they give people back in return?! Amazing.

Am not sure how much UK coverage you watch but the RTE commentators are completely clueless, its like watching a completely different game as they seem to be several seasons behind in any law changes etc. and don't get me started on the Setanta rubbish, for god's sake they could at least buy a match programme before the Celtic League games to find out who is playing!!

Studio pundits are studio pundits payed to spout generally inane drivel to fill time and while I agree Dunphy at least stirs things up, people like Giles don't even know the names of the players on the pitch (esp. see the coverage of the Keane testimonial it was laughable).

The guy who commmentates on the radio isn't too bad, think his name is Jim Sheridan. Only problem is when I try to avoid Ryles inane annoying croaks by switching on the radio and the sound down on the tv, some times tries are scores before I see them on the TV !!

Haha, I once called Ryle a fag on www.irishrugby.ie messageboard and he replied saying it was a bit harsh. Shudda called him an Epic-fag.
