Converting a photo into a sketch

I've scanned an old photo from the 70s of a friends sister who passed away a few years ago. He wants the photo turned into a sketch and printed A2

I'm not crazy about the results from the sketch filter in photoshop and wondering what other options I should try.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    You could do it yourself?

Sketching from photographs isn't too hard. Other than that, I'm sure there's plenty of good sketch artists about that would do it for a small fee.

If you want to do it yourself, photocopy the photograph and draw boxes covering the whole image, do the same with a H branded pencil on the A2 sheet. The rest is just drawing from the photocopy. It's a lot easier than it sounds.

If Shrimp is about, I'm sure he'll have some advice about it too.

I couldnt. Wouldnt even try that Fajitas. Ideally I'd like a some sort of plug-in or other software. I can print A2 myself. Anyone?

you could check out actions that claim to do something like sketch photos

although i've tried some in the past the results aren't always what you'd think they'll be, see my flickr A/C to see what i mean, didn't really dwell on that too much tho!

I have seen a pretty good watercolour one.

anyway check out this site, clicky

    they have what your after.

In my (biased) opinion, plug in's and filters for this kind of effect really look cheap moreso than anything else...

If you'd even half think of spending money on a filter for this kinda thing, I'd tell you (Or your friend in this case) to go to any of the artists you see about Stephens Green or O'Connell bridge and get them to do it. Wouldn't cost much more than 50 quid I'd say.

That said, if you had to use software, a combo of 4 or 5 different filters would probably come out the best.
