3D Poker - is it a distraction?

This might impress the technos, the gamers and fans of The Sims, but does a serious poker player need a 3D environment where you can clothe yourself and switch camera angles?

All I would say is: "Hmmmm, interesting" :)

I find it makes it easier to tell when someone's bluffing.

It just slows down the game in my opinion, its all just a gimmick and i cant see many serious poker players playing on these sites... By serious I mean high stake players.

Who cares about them? Only high stakes players of which most of the contributors here are not. If loads of the bad players play here cause 'it looks cool' then there will be plenty of others willing to play to take their money off them. Usability and variety as well as a critical mass of people will be the deciding factor here methinks.

As someone who turns off any bells and/or whistles when available then I am not really too excited by the prospect of this, and I am also wondering how practical multitabling will be too, and most importantly of all, will there be Omaha?????

One factor that sprigs to mind is the fact that it is obviously going to take a more powerful computer to cope with the £D environment. And this will, most likely, lead to more crashes and lost connections. Its probably a bit off before it can run as smothly as lower res games.

I just dont think that these type of sights will be good for getting a lot of money out of, I think the graphics will just slow down the speed of the game to almost live play speed, obviously you can still make a profit out of these but if they keep the blind levels/speeds the same as they are on other sites the tournements will inevitably turn into crapshoots unless they decide to make them all deepstack tourneys.

Obviously you will have a lot of newcomers attracted by the gimmick of it all but I dont think it will improve the hourly return of some of the serious I make x amount per hour players amongst us

Someone will write a skin for it so it just looks like any other poker site, then you'll be able to 6 table against opponents who just like the pretty colours.

its not about the graphics.... I played on won of these 3d sites because there was 10dollars free when you sign up, and when you do anything your 3d character does the action ie you raise and he pushs chips into the pots, it slows down the game more then you would imagine.

I loaded this up today and had a few games at the cash tables (play money). Have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit.

It might not be the best place for making money, but it is 100 times more enjoyable than normal online poker. I didn't notice it being slower, but It might be a liitle bit.

Theres a lot quirky extras, like the ability to do chip tricks while debating a hand. Each character also has about 20 sayings which he can use at any one time... these could get annoying after a while, but you can turn off the sound if it bothers you.

The graphics are excellent, and it is enjoyable to play. One thing I noticed is you dont see your hole cards all the time. You have to click 'see hole cards'. This is good because, like in live play, it can give you information (if somene has a flush draw off the flop they usually check their cards).

It is basically in between live and online. It will be interesting to see if this takes off...
