Digital Camera?

    Hi all,

I think this is the most suitable sub-forum to ask..

I am going to buy a digital camera for my girlfriend. I was going to purschase either :

    Kodak C530:
    • 5.0 MegaPixel
    • 5x Digital Zoom
    • Memory Type SD
    • LCD Screen Size 1.5"
    • €130

    Olympus X 715:
    • 5.0 MegaPixel
    • 3x Optical Zoom
    • 4x Digital Zoom
    • Memory Type XD
    • LCD Screen Size 1.5"
    • €150

Just comparing them out now I would probably go for the Olympus.. Solely because it has an Optical Zoom which the Kodak does not.

Does anyone have any other digital camera recommendations for around the €150 range?

    Thanks in advance

If you can get the FujiFilm S5500.

    Some simple advice:
    Megapixel count not too import.
Ignore digital zoom, just go by optical.

€300 and too big, I'm not looking for a high spec digital camera just a nice small compact one for the gf.

Surely the megapixel count is the main thing to go by when purchasing a digital camera???

    As I said:

I have an Olympus compact camera for the last two years and have taken lots of shots with it. I'm very happy with its performance and would recommend Olympus cameras because of this. It is a 5 megapixel one but my model is obsolete at this stage.

It depends, unless she's going to want to print out at a4 then once you have 4mp you don't need to worry about that.

The things to consider are, as said before - optical zoom (digital zoom just doesn't count, at all)
build quality - some are plastic, some are metal and just feel more quality. Hold one in your hand in a shop and see how it feels.
Speed of starting up and writing to the memory card - you can get the actual figures for pretty much any camera on www.steves-digicams.com to check that out.
Which memory card type does it take - see which it takes and which is cheaper, although there's hardly any difference these days.
Also check what you get in the box - you want a rechargeable battery, and a charger at least. I've seen people very surprised when sometimes the box arrives and it's JUST a camera with no accessories.

Just use your gut feeling. Technically there wouldn't be much difference, for casual use.
