Im planning on buying 2 monitors and this is probably what im going to go for. ATM on the site its currently 40% reduced. Anybody know how long this will last for?

Also, are there any other cheaper alternatives?
Main req is the ability to run resolution 1600 which this monitor satisfies

I have the 2005FPW which is the widescreen model. The monitors are fantastic.. No issues with them..

Offer should go till 31st of may. You will need a decent GFX card to use the native resolutions

For multidisplay it will be massive, i was thinking of getting a second for my own multidisplay system

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I have my 2001FP about 18 months now. Excellent monitor. Current special is €450 which is half what it was 18 months ago. Nobody knows how long those offers last, if I were you I'd order it today

Says just below the image that promotion ends the 31/05

I would be buying them at that price mate

You should also check out the 20" widescreen TFT's on pixmania e.g. there's a Benq model for 393 euro with better response time (8ms), better contrast ratio (800:1), same resolution. (It has no S-Video/Composite inputs if they are important to you.)

I dont even know what that is so its not important tbh
Is that monitor better in every important way then? and cheaper?

Well on paper anyway the specs on the BenQ look better. There are other things one might consider (e.g. build quality, warranty etc). I'd say your best bet is to search for reviews on the Benq on google and be guided that way. The S-Video/composite ports allow you to hook up a VCR or DVD player directly to the monitor.

ah so the Dell one can double as a tv for watching tapes and dvds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,908 ✭✭✭Alkers

Might grab a Dell too. It seems to have low contrast and brightness ratios and only has a VGA input. . .
What's the response time? Anyone have one and use it for gaming/dvds? How is it?

    This looks a better buy?

They all can. The 2001fp has a lot of input options (VGA, DVI, composite, S-video). The only trouble about watching a TV/video signal on these high res monitors is that the low resolution is interpolated to fit the screen...I watch videos on it from about 2.5-3m away...anything closer and you'll see blurriness, but from that disatnce or further the image sharpens (trick of the eye)

I <3 my 2001fp...I paid ~€600 for it about 14 months ago (from an ebay reseller, considerably cheaper than dell at the time)...never a moment's trouble, superb clarity of colour, pin sharp at native resolution...does any game I play very well, at both native and scaled resolutions.
For 450 quid this is an absolute steal...dell are clearing stock for the arrival of it's replacement.

Think I will go for the Dell alright. The widescreen version is only €25 more but seems to have been cheaper in the first place. Which would you say is a better buy? Any advantage to buying a few together?

I bought the 2005FPW last week and I must say its very impressive. Its 475 euro FYI.

The 2001FP is most likely awesome if its similar to the 2005FPW.

Whats better about it than the 2001FP? for an extra 25 euro..

The 20.1 inch 4:3, 20 inch widescreen and 24 inch widescreen monitors are all quality. We have loads of them in work and they really are top notch. I have the 24 inch widescreen at home also and performs superbly.

Have had the 2005FP for about 8 months now, fantastic monitor, runs games and Xbox360 flawlessly. I can't imagine what a 30" would be like (That's the newer range right?).

The 20" and 24" models have been updated to match the styling of the 30" model now.

No they support HDCP over DVI. HDMI combines DVI and sound into the one cable basically.

are you shure i heard the 24" and the 30" models have it.

Hmm am pretty sure they do no. I was considering updating my 24 inch to the new model so have been looking at them fairly closely.

Figured it may have been HDCP, but thought HDMI because of the suggested spelling. Would be a bit too nice if they supported that I guess :p.
