This promises Sexy results. I imagine Teams don't have to be all from the one gym. Some of the smaller clubs could get in touch with others and combine a team, and some of the bigger clubs might allow their second tier fighters to find another team.

I'll see if I can make a Team TwoKings, if not, I'll post here looking for fighters.

    Colm

PS: I see Hill Sprints at the Hellfire Club in the very near future.

Sound like a great idea got to get working on getting a team together :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Yep, I have no problem with smaller clubs working together to form a team, in fact it sounds like just the thing the sport needs. If one club is struggling for a heavyweight or whatever and recruits one from somewhere else, no problem. :D

another great innovative idea! excellent stuff:D

*hmmm i wonder if i can make money on the transfer market...*;)

Fantastic idea Dave. After my exploits of being 75kgs on Saturday, I think I'll put myself forward as someones -62kgs competitor...:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Kavanagh, you are cup tied under the bosman ruling! :p no freelancing for you. Glad you guys like the idea, and if it works, it can go on the road,if another club wants to host it, so its not always people travelling to Dublin.

prize for most inventive team name? :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Cheers JK. If you lose a match but your team wins say 4 - 3 or 5 - 2 or whatever, you still proceed. But it is a team event. Team loses, you are gone even if you won all your matches. (there is no I in team! :p ) Yeah I know there is a "me" before you smart asses get typing.

Is there anyone out there at -62Kg with truly fantastic hair?

There are three Is in 'point blank submissions'. **** you team. :p

Seriously though, sounds like a great idea. We might have to find a small child to enter under 62kg, we're all fat here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭The Shane

I'll cut to -62kg. I'll be team hair peace's secret malnourished weapon.

I foresee a lot of teams short a little guy. A lot of teams full of 83kg guys.

With a prize like this , and a need for little guys I can see this having a devastating effect on pie sales across the country. I hope you realise what you've done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

we will have strict rules on the use of children or dwarfs to make up team numbers. -62kg fighters can be found everywhere, you just need to know where to look, and use the right bait................ie smurfette.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Ok, its come to my attention, today that one of my colleagues is going to work for free this summer in a school in Nairobi, Kenya. A lot of the kids are HIV orphans or indeed HIV themselves. So the winning team will now receive €700 thas €100 each per athlete and the €420 remaining will buy some footballs, frisbees and softball gear for her to take with her. So get your entries in not only will it be a good day, you will be helping out some kids who through no fault of their own face unimaginable hardship on a daily basis.

Team Fantastic Hair is nearing completion. All that's left is our sponsorship from Brylcream and Toni&Guy. With our stunningly beautiful hair we hope to dazzle our opponents so much they'll stand in awe while we proceed to take them down, and proceed to tap them out. Afterwards we'll hear them mutter "it was worth it just to be that close to truly magnificant hair."

On a more serious note, the guys down at TwoKings last night were really excited at the idea of a Team tournament [mutter]even more so than they were about the NSC[/mutter] so it looks like you've hit a real winner here Dave.

I'll mail you names as soon as I've everyone confirmed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭The Shane

What makes this so called team event so great is that it's not like one of those real team events where the striker blames the defenders, the defenders blame the goalie, the goalie blames the rest of the team and because the team are such expensive wastes of boot laces, everybody blames the managers.

On this day, we can stand back and blame whoever lost. It's a team but with accountability. I love it.

More to the point when will the teams be announced. I aasume since it's relatively small we could have some build up and dream matches and so forth. Any entries in yet? Who is the competition?

I plan on using the awesome power of a training montage to win.

Entries are from me at dj_kimura@hotmail.com. Tim Murphy has got the ball rolling with the first entry form request so that leaves room for 6 more teams, as hosts NG have to enter a team. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭Kent Brockman

It may be advisable to issue hair nets to 'Team fantastic Hair',not only tfor jealousy reasons but to avoid the old
"did you just smell my hair ?" ;) situation which may arise during stalling or when taking the back.(What with all these new Fructus whotsits hair care products that are currently available to those mullet boys)

On a more serious note will there be spectators/cover charge ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭RealJohn

There are three Is in 'point blank submissions'.
    Intensity, integrity and intelligence?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

How about a nominal €2 fee for spectators, monies going to same charity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

hey the more the merrier and if you are serious about competing, im sure we can find you a team.

I'd also like to pimp myself at -75kg, so sod off Elytron! (Or -83kgs to make up for the national pie crisis)

    Elytron,
    You're on!;)

    Dave,
As long as the spectator fee is for Charity I'm sure nobody would have too much difficulty digging a little deeper in their pockets. After all, most spectators would be from the Irish grappling scene and would go anyway....

Just a thought. Worthy cause by the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Well all monies outside the prize money will go to the equipment fund, some sports gear, some books and also fund a day trip for the kids to a fun park and animal meet and greet type gig. A little money can go along way in the third world.:) If people would like to give more on the day, that would be great.

Team Fantastic Hair's entry is in bar one competitor they are still checking the hair to see if its fantastic enough. Thats two slots gone. Teams will be announced once I have all the entries in, but draw for tournament will be on the day and after each round, ahhh the randomness of it all ;-)

John, like I said Saturday, there's an opening for you on TFH! BUT our patience is limited.

Some may not like my aggressive and "conniving" recruitment policy but history will remember differently.
