Came up against this situation last night and was looking to get some opinions on how to play it. 15 Player tournament. Down to the final 4 with top 3 positions getting paid.

    Hero 5K
    Villain 5K
    Player A 1.5K
    Player B 3.5K

So i'm joint chip lead. Everyone at the table is solid and have all tightened up at this stage so there has been very little play. Hero on the SB and dealt KK.
Villain on BB. Player B called and I raise making it another 450 to play, Player A thinks for a few moments then re-raises all in. Player C folds.

Should i let this one go or get in there?

I insta-call. Knock him out you're in the money. Where's the dilemma?

Agreed, worst case he hits a hand and doubles, its very unlikely and even if he does your still in second place.

do u mean the 5k guy went all or the 1.5k guy ?

not that its makes the slightest difference.

    Insta call.

If u mean the 5k guy went all in, and u are comtemplating folding this, u are too desperate to sneak into the money and playing outside your bankroll.
U are miles ahead of any of these guys ranges.

If the big stack guy did push, its a nice play by him as he knows u will need a fairly big hand to call given the situation, but u have a monster...........Furthermore, i dont think he pushes there with AA (again assuming u meant the 5k guy since u called him villian), i think he makes it 1k-1200 with AA.

Sorry I was a bit unclear on the players there. The 5K guy went all in meaning I call and double to 10K or bust on the bubble.

Suffice to say I did call the hand. came up against AK and he hit the A on the flop. my hand didn't improve so i went out.

I'm not so sure I should have gone all in and risked my position at this stage. My thoughts at the time were to let it go and wait for a better position. Too hard to lay down the kings though and I still like my chances against AK. Given the same situation again I think I'd play the same way but was curious as to others opinions on the bubble in this situation!

Wait for a better position like what? AA you could be still sitting there waiting...

well basically im in a position to sit and coast into the money. no need to be taking all in preflop risks on the bubble. Would you disagree with that sort of play?

You were going to take that hand down 70% of the time against AK, if you were in the same situation again you'd be a fool to not play exactly the same way again.

There's only one hand that your behind, if you double up you will most definitley take 1st prize or be in a great position to do so.

If your aim is to limp into the money then you never needed to post this hand in the first place.

    Eh... No.

What does third place pay out? Your buy-in plus a little bit? Meh... you may as well not have played so.

Against seriously self injuring donkeys you might be able to fold your way into second place.

First place? You need to win all of the chips on the table to get there...

And as others said... What exactly is this "better position" that you speak of?

If he turned his cards over and you saw AK would you fold?

Like i said if i knew he had AK i would probably have played anyway because I do like the odds. Thanks for the feedback, just wanted other opinions to be sure that I'm right to play it and risk crashing out.

Good odds on any one particular hand nearly always override the risk of being knocked out.

This doesn't mean you should specifically seek coinflips with small edges in a tournament but it does mean that you certainly can't be shying away from big hands in case you bust.
