If you need fish to eat please don't kill our pike. They have been slaughtered for years and there are plenty of fish and chip shops and fishmongers in cork and elsewhere. If you are seen killing pike by Irish anglers expect some harsh words and worse. This doesn't mean you can kill them when no-one is looking either. If you must take a fish home please don't kill anything over 3 or 4 pounds in weight as the bigger fish are the future. You could also try some sea or beach fishing for food fish which is more appropriate.Lastly there are many trout fisheries all over Ireland which have no problems with you taking home fish for the table.

Is there a shortage of Pike in Ireland now? What would be appropriate? Other than trout?
