hey im thinking about buying a slr, just one question before i start lookin at cameras and that, i have a film slr, its an old pentax but would the 35-80 mm lens on that be compatable with other cameras? its a Pentax - A 1:4-5.6 35-80 mm. in fact im not sure what those numbers and stuff means, any help would be great. similarly if anyone has a good website that shows lens compatability etc.. oh, im leaning towards a canon anyway, the 350D.

basically is this lens only compatable with other pentaxs, or is it somewhat univertsal?

    chao

Is it an autofocus lens? I know you can get adapters, but how effective they'd be, I couldn't tell you.

Have a look about eBay for some examples.

I may be wrong here , but arn't Pentax lenses all 4 thirds series lenses ?

If so they are not compatible with a canon mount , you may be able to buy a converter but no electronic feature of the lens will work , you'll be stuck with manual focus , and possible manual exp. as well.
