No one has collected my form yet.

When is your deadline rsta? Are you looking forward to your supervisor coming to your office to count your forms?

Ive got 12 streets/apartment complexes, and i've got 6 totally completed so far. Just a few niggly ones on each street/apartment complex to get back. I'm calling to 10 of them tommorrow and if they are not in they are getting the Rem2 letter and a freepost envelope.

Hopefully they will comply. The Rem2 letter is the final letter we have to issue to households/flats that have not made any contact with me. I've already called to these households several times and put my mobile number in on a card but they don't ring me or text me back. I am guessing they are paranoid foreigners/illegals/odd Irish people/people on holidays that just dont want to comply. At the end of the week I will have a list of these houses/flats that I have not made contact with (or got the form back to the CSO in the freepost envelope) and will give this list to my Supervisor and he can deal with them.

What area are you in Bond007, maybe your enumerator can't get in touch with you, have they dropped in a 'calling card' ?

Oh btw Bond007, I dont mind my Supervisor coming around to collect my forms and my count, he has to call around each week to get my returns anyway. He's a pretty sound fella, its his first time as a supervisor, he was an enumerator the last census. So he's learning as he goes along too.

I was very behind at the beginning, most people in my group are 40years + housewives that dont work, bar 3 or 4 of us, who are working full time and do this job as an extra.

So the 'lots of freetime' homemakers were flying along ahead of all us... Sure one of the women i spoke to 3 days after census night had collected 150 forms! I had collected 50... hmm.

Ah but its all coming together slowly but surely!

I've got about 10 left out of 360, all flats. Rem 1ed them at the weekend, will rem 2 this weekend, have a feeling these appts are empty, but not sure. It's great to have my evenings back again, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though, but haven't watched tv in ages! I've worked about 90hrs all together and i'm not getting taxed, so gonna make a good bit out of this.

Have noticed a few mistakes in forms, like the odd question not answered. Do I,

a: Go back and get them to fill it in
    b: Fill it in myself
    c: Just pretend I didn't see it

I'll probably go back but just afraid of nagging people over 1 question, any ideas?

I have 13 left to collect out of 380 houses. Will go out tonight and rem 1 them. I've quite enjoyed it.
BTW If people have left ques unanswered just leave it. As long as it's signed and has the correct details on the front it a valid form. Don't make work for yourself.
May 22nd is the deadline for final collection

If you know the answers go ahead and tick the boxes. If you don't know just bury the form in the bottom of one of those big trunks you have. The Supervisor will only take a few off the top to check.

When I did it a few years ago, the biggest problem was unsigned forms. Advice at the time was be creative. :D

do any of you know what is the story with the terminal bonus. i have done mine handed out the rem2's (all apartment blocks i have a suspicion a lot are empty). Do we have to wait long before everything is calculated out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

So long as your supervisor signs you off and is happy with your work you will get the bonus. You will get your terminal cheque 1 month after the boxes are collected.
You will also receive a small cheque at xmas for 8% of your gross for holidays accured. :) It was a nice surprise at xmas.

I've called to all my households now too. Anyone that didnt answer got the Rem2. But I am pretty sure some of these houses/flats are empty... Yeah I wonder how long do I have to give it before I can mark them as vacant?

Actually, I think I'll make a list and ring the local post delivery office tommorrow and see if they can give me any information on the households that I've not made any contact with whatsoever.

I'ts the waiting on the forms to come back that is such a pain... what if they don't come back!...

If they don't come back, it's the suprvisors job to retreive them. I didn't have this problem thankfully.
I think it is safe to say that vacant houses can now be marked as so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

I've to make a list of the houses/forms where ive had no luck. My supervisor is asking me for it.

I've about 15 that I've not got back yet.

There is one house in particular where I know there are people living there and they have avoided me each time ive called. Its such a head wrecker, what weirdos like... I'm so tempted to just mark the house as vacant and forget about them but what if a completed census form turns up in the cso in a few weeks time or something..

    Also, I guess I won't be getting the completion bonus .. what a sh*t

Why not? I have never heard of anyone not getting it. Has your boss said something? Feel free to PM.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 38 Tim06

Really? Sure they aren't going to stop the completion bonus just because people wouldn't answer the door. Its not your fault. I have had all apartments and i have about 60 that i haven't got. Granted a lot of these are vacant but some of them have people that just won't answer the door.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

Hey Bond007, yeah you're right, I spoke to my Supervisor about getting the bonus and he said that there is nothing more I can do about certain households that I can't get the form back from. Some of them I've not made any contact with whatsoever. I've called and left calling cards, cen1 letters, the form itself, then on collection left calling card again, the Rem1 letter and finally the Rem2 with a free post envelope.

I've followed the procedures to the book so as I have done all my duties to get the forms back if they dont come back theres not much more I can do. So this weekend I will take another shot at those households, and maybe some of the forms will be received in the census office on Monday, but by then I'll just have to go ahead and do the final count and box it all up ready to go back to the CSO.

I was thinking that I had to have all forms back to get the bonus. But so long as all the duties are done on time, it looks like I will be getting the bonus afterall,

Didnt she leave calling cards/letters asking you to ring/text her?

She most likely put the form through the letter box as she couldnt get in contact with you. If you have her number give her a call and I'm sure she would be very happy to call around and collect it. Just put it into an envelope.

You are not obliged to give it to the enumerator. You can post it if you have privacy concerns.

Roughly what sort of money are you all coming out with?

Did anyone else have to pay over 500 euro in tax last friday? Was it an error?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

    Hi foggy,

Its most likely an "error on purpose" so that you get paid you 100euros advance payment.

I noticed on my last payslip I paid 65euros in tax, so I rang the payroll department about it and the lady explained that the 65euros is a fictitious amount that doesn't exist, its purely so they can arrange our weekly advance payment of 100euros (or whatever your advance is).

We are all still on emergency tax apparently. Best give them a ring if you're still uncertain about it, the number is on the bottom of the payslip.

    Thanks Rsta,

I thought it was something like that alright. I was speaking to a few of the enumerators up here in Donegal and we were all taxed heavily this week! It's no big deal as long as they sort it out in the end for the completion figures.

I finished up at the beginning of the week and am delighted to have evenings to myself again. Hope it was worth it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

Hi Foggy, I'm finished too! My supervisor called to me yesterday to take the cases away! Now we can sit back and relax and wait for our final payment :D

ps: I rang the payroll dept. just to check when we would be paid and we should be paid before the end of June, possibly the 2nd week of June though. Happy days!

I've not been paid either. Spoke to them last week and they said it should be in our bank accounts by today or tomorrow....

Sorry to hijack the thread but its rare to have the attention of emumerators! I'm just wondering how many empty properties did you guys come across doing the census? We hear stories of 300,000 empty properties around. Did you see anything to back up this?!

    Cheers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

    Pay Day! :D
Got taxed a fair bit, but all in all I think it was worth it. Happy days.

Whizzbang, the CSO will publish the statistics towards the end of this year and you can find out the statistics on vacant dwellings. www.cso.ie

    Cheers.
