I am looking to get a Toshiba 32WL66 LCD. It gets great reviews in magazines and on the web and it has 2x HDMI inputs (which is what drew me to it in the first place).

I went to Harvey Norman in Blanchardstown and asked the assistant. He said he had never heard of Toshiba, so I turned aorund and walked straight to D.I.D. They told me that the rarely do Toshibas and that the best bet is the UK stores, so I went to Currys. They didn't have any. Power City have a few, but not the new model (they guy told me to call during the week, when they can check with their suppliers). The Toshiba Ireland website only delivers to the UK.

So does anyone know a Toshiba specialist or have you seen this model in any shops???? Thanks

I suggest you contact Origo. They're the Irish distributors of Toshiba.

There is also a section listing companies they supply. Though, I'd say ring/email them to see what companies ordered the model you're looking for.

    www.origo.ie

    Hope this helps.

Thanks byte. According to their site the only Toshiba dealers in Ireland are in Kells, Tipperary & Roscommon  . Thought there might be at least one in Dublin, but nothing! I will give Power City a shout and if there's no joy there I will call the guy in Kells and see what he say. Thanks for the info.

Will you let us know how you go? I'm still looking for a 37" and say the one in Power City but the WL66 seems much newer.

Have you used this crowd before? I can't see if they deliver to Ireland or not (they have the telly I want). Doesn't look like it, but I might be wrong. Thanks

I put in a request on powercity's website for info on the telly I am looking for and they called me about 40mins later (no bad!). Anyway, he told me they only have the WL56 models, but he is going to check with their suppliers if they canget the WL66's and get back to me.

http://www.katronics.de/index.php ship to Ireland. Thye've got the 32WL66P and the 32WL66Z models.

Thanks Mountjoy. Very cheap price (Power City are charging €20 more than this for the previous 56 model).

Have you used this place before? I still feel a little hesitant about buying something so expensive/delicate over the internet.

Thanks. Did the article mention anything in particular about them? My parents usually get The Independent. I'll get them to hang on to it if they still have it.

Personally, no; although I have seen other people recommending them here on Boards. I'm not yet in the market for upgrading my TV but will almost certainly use them.

Try doing a search for katronics on Boards, and read the threads (as well as the article in the Indo - which I missed).

How do I search the forums? I can't find any search options!

EDIT: Found the search option, but it says that searching has been disabled!

Well, just had a bit of a search aournd the net and found some negative remarks about Katronics. They only take payment by Bank Transfer or COD. Seems a bit strange. Poepl seem to have a lot of hassle getting their money back with undelivered items.

Having said that the Toshiba 32Wl66P is now only €978

EDIT (again!): Found on another forum a place in the UK called webelectricals.co.uk that seem to be good (from what I have read so far anyway). Looks to be about €1350 all in for the TV (the older wl56 version is €1299 in Power City).

Emailled webelectricals and they don't deliver to Dublin :(

DO NOT USE KATRONICS.DE - YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY

    www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201889&highlight=katronics

    THEY ARE REALLY REALLY DODGY

READ THE ABOVE LINK- IT'S ONE OF MANY HORROR STORIES ABOUT THEM

do a google search : Katronics fraud

to read more about them keeping people's money and not sending goods despite huge efforts from their customers who bought in good faith

    Always:
    (a) question carefully why on-line retailers insist on direct transfer to their bank account rather than credit card - this leave cusomer with no comebacks
    (b) be very careful of using foreign language retailers - hard to argue with them if things go wrong when you can't speak the lingo (I'm not xenophobic by the way and I think Germany's a lovely country)
    (c) do an exhaustive search for reviews of the retailer and particularly look for bad ones - remember good reviews can always be posted by a disingenuous retailer about himself...

Caveat emptor - may the buyer beware
If something's too good to be true, it probably isn't true (to misquote an old saying)
